Jon's Story
After Madison I went to and graduated from UCSD in December 1981 with a BA in economics, later graduating from SDSU in 1983 with an MA in economics and where I also TA’ed economics and was a statistical software instructor. In 1984 I married Debbie Gutierrez (also Madison class of ’78). Then we were off to UC Santa Barbara where I was in the economics PhD program and had a graduate assistant job, but a department coup drastically changed the program and we decided it was time for me to get a real job.

E for five years and finally 24 years as an economist at Avista Corporation in Spokane WA. I started out performing analytical work and then transitioned into a policy role. I was honorably fired (after reporting that the company had submitted false sworn testimony in a contentious proceeding) in 2015 and I decided it was time to retire.
As of 2017 Debbie and I have been married for 33 years. We have twin sons who are now 31 years old. We continue to live on 20 acres north of Spokane WA where Debbie and I take part in various dog sports and I participate in competitive shooting sports.
