Jon's Story

A few weeks after graduation I was off to Air Force basic training in San Antonio, TX. Got a sweet haircut and some cool clothes that smelled like moth balls. The staff there was VERY welcoming, lots of kind words and plenty of hugs. They kind of give the impression that they don't really like you. It actually was an experience that I would never give back After basic I was sent to "tech school" which was still in TX. This is where you get your initial job training. Which for me was aircraft maintenance. While there I ran into Chad LaValley(also in mechanic trng) and Tim Riddle (water treatment). Never so happy to see familiar faces. Hugs may have actually taken place, however counciling will soon blot out those memories. Upon graduating tech school I recieved my duty assignment to Travis AFB. which is in Nor Cal between San Francisco and Sacramento. It's funny, growing up in So Cal I thought,,"sweet, it should be gorgeous up there, a little airstrip surrounded by nothing but Redwood trees." WRONG!! How about rice patty marshes, farmlands, and lots of wind. Oh yeah and a rash that only a perscription could clear up.(joking) At Travis I was a Crew Chief on the C-5 Galaxy, which is a large cargo carrier. The one that lowers to the ground and the front and rear ...Expand for more
open to drive stuff on and off. In a nutshell, it kneels down and takes it from both ends. As a Crew Chief I was able to travel with the aircraft as it went out on different missions, which allowed me the opportunity to see a lot of places. Several spots in Europe, Africa, Middle East(of course), Japan, and Australia. It could be a lot fun, but it also came with a lot of stress. In Oct 06' I met Alicia. She worked at a christian bookstore in town that my roommateand I would go into from time to time. Yes I said "bookstore" (I've read like 3 books my whole life). For the longest time I only refered to her as the "Auburn Haired Lady", until a buddy "called me out" for being too scared to talk to her. Well, I showed him. We now have 3 kids and will be celebrating 10yrs in Dec 08. Marriage has been great. It's challanged me to put others first, wipe the tiolet seat, pick up my socks, and to do what I'm told. Hey, sounds like basic training. Seriously though it really is good, I've been very blessed. For the last 10yrs I've worked as a cable splicer for AT&T. I live in Auburn, Ca (nor cal). I still ride dirt bikes, listen to metal, go to church, and write long self absorbed bio's to my high school friends. Thanks for readin Jon (Colonel Sanders) seedof450yahoo
