Jon's Story
After High School went to and graduated from Mankato State University, BS in Econ. Because my draft number at that time was 72 (!), I voluntarily entered the Air Force rather than being drafted in 1971. Went to Officer Training School, and then aviator training, then flight school in the F-4 (fighter) aircraft at Victorville, California.
From there was sent to Udorn Thailand in early 1973, flew a little bit in the war (enough to know it wasn't fun getting shot at!) served a year there and then was sent to RAF Woodbridge, England, then to Homestaed AFB Florida, then to Ramstein West Germany, then to Seymour Johnson...Expand for more
AFB, North Carolina, then to Langley AFB VA, then to Shaw AFB SC. At Shaw I first served in Desert Shield and Desert Storm, made numerous other trips to the Middle East, and then retired from the Air Force in 1993. Have been here in Sumter, SC ever since and have worked for state government in the Emergency Management agency, where I am one of the deputy directors. Married, two boys now ages 32 and 30 (boy am I getting old!) and am planning on retiring in two years at age 63, and move to our house in the NC mountains near Asheville.
There you have it, not real exciting, but that's my story and I'm sticking to it.
