Jon's Story

Living out in the Boston, MA area and part owner in a plastic injection molding company. I have spent most of my active career with industrial polymer companies such as Raychem, Dupont and the like so thought I would try running a smaller company and truly enjoy what would seem to most as a boring experience.. But the start of it all was the family move to Horseheads from Painted Post when I was entering the second grade. I attended St Mary's until one fateful day when Sister Matilda, the reigning Mother of all Sisters grabbed me by the arm and accused me of cutting in the lunch line. I actually hadn't done that (at least on that day..) so the reflex to the pain that her finger nails inflicted on my arm was the holy mother of "F" bombs in response..The very next day I was introduced to the Annex in my sixth grade year and I met Wink, Eddie Blanchard, Billy Bowman, Sue Gale and found a wayward home in the HHDS public school system until my Junior year. I then went to Glen Springs Academy after a recruiter for the school watched me play a few pick up games of basketball at the infamous Neighborhood House in Elmira. Since Coach Gushue cut me from the HHDS basketball squad; for good reason as I most likely had no clue as to what repsonsibility was at that time..I went off to Glen Springs in Watkins Glen, NY and played with some of the greatest street ballers of all time. Guys like Fly Williams,Freddy Lee, Craig Smoak, Michael Moore and on and on. I was offered a couple of rides at Wake Forest and Austin Peay but.. I pulled a 13 in the military draft my senior year so off to the Air Force; Pararescue/ ParaJumper and did an unwanted tour in Viet Nam running down aircraft and personnel recoveries into not so good territories. After that, I came back to attend Corning...Expand for more
Community College and then transferred to Cornell. ( Jack Gushue, Joe Crupi and Herbie Gross would never had won a bet on that outcome..:) After my BS I completed my MBA at the Cornell Johnson School and then went to work in the electronics distribution sector. I met Patti, who was attending Ithaca College and we eventually married and had one son' Brandon. Although Patti and I are no longer, we remain connected through Brandon who is a Sophomore in College. He is an exceptional young man and a great baseball player so it will be fun seeing where it all winds up. The Sunset Drive homestead in Horeheads is still occupied by my very old but very active Mom who still cooks those Polish dishes and pastries just as she did when I was 8. In fact she still thinks I am 8. But then again, even though I am nearly fossilized myself, my intellect and attitude has still never progressed beyond that of the 8 y/o boy. I did get back to Horseheads on occassion over these past years as I coached my son through his AAU basketball and Little League and Babe Ruth baseball years and many games took me back to Horseheads. Although I graduated from Glen Springs Academy, I have often run into old classmates from Horseheads and it always feels like a homecoming. I always stop at "Beefeaters" and always run into a Tom Tremaine "Termite" or someone there from the ancient past and it's always a great get together while sampling an American draft and seeing that time has not changed in any way the old "rock" in Hanover Square or the ability to pick up long since gone friendships right where they were left off. Hope whomever reads this enjoys and would look foreward to any contact as always. Horseheads was a home for certain. All my best to anyone whom cares.:) Yes, I am still alive!!!!
