Jon's Story
Currently living in Israel for the past 14 years with my wife Sara. Sara and I have been married for 40 years and have been blessed with 3 children and 11 grandchildren who are all with us in Israel. We live in a small village called Yad Binyamin (near the coast/Ashdod) with one of my daughters, Shoshan and her six kids just down the street. My other daughter Kayla and her 5 kids live 25 minutes away in a town called Beit Shemesh. Our youngest, Mikki, age 26 is completed serving as a commander in the Engineering corp of the Israel Defense Forces who recently completed his bachelors in business administration at the Jerusalem Instititue of Technology. Now he is working as an analyst in a company that specializes in Mergers and Acquisitions.
I left high tech a few year back where I worked full time as a business consultant for Amdocs, which is an international company that has developed large billing, charging, ordering and CRM systems fir Telecommunication companies.. My last position at Amdocs I worked on the Customer Experience Team where I traveled different parts of the world where my companies systems are deployed such as in Ireland, Germany, Austria, Bulgaria, India, Canada and in Southeast Asia.
My passion in the past 23 years has been long distance running - having completed my 25th marathon last beginning of December 2021, 12 years ago I developed a beginning runners program for my wife - including intervals of running and walking. After testing the program for a number of years, I started giving volunteer running clinics in our village.
The program has grown so big that I sessions twice a week with 100s having participating. over the past 10 years.
So a few years ago, I went to the leading sports institute in Israel, the Wingate Institute to receive by running coach certification. So no...Expand for more
w I am a full time running coach with separate men and women groups, plus personal coaching one-on-one also with men and women. I expanded out with conjunction with the local JCC to offering walking groups plus twice weekly offer 1 hour overall body exercise clinic for guys ages 60+ . I even give virtual training session to people in the states if anyone is interested ..
You can see my program on my website: "runningwithjon". Many people are following my program virtually via the website.
Before making Aliyah to Israel, I worked in the States working in marketing for Rochester Telephone (currently called Frontier) and then AT&T in New Jersey and in Boca Raton Florida - also in working in Marketing and in Process Engineering where I received my Six Sigma Black Belt. Prior to working for RTC, Sara and I lived in Israel for 7 years where I got my MBA just after getting married. Sara and I met during undergrad studies at the University of Florida, in Gainesville. My 2 years between undergrad and graduate school I worked for the Jewish Agency coordinating Israel related programming on 17 campuses throughout the South East US.
I love living in Israel and having family close by. We live out in the country so I love running in the fields and running paths. My wife and I have grown religiously over the years as we love the Jewish lifestyle being Sabbath observant. Our special village that has 1000 modern orthodox families, closes it gate for 24 hours over the Shabbat so it is great to disconnect from technology with no cars and children playing in the streets.
I tried hard to find a way to attend the 40th reunion to catch up with old friends, however at this time in may not happen. I will make a major effort to attend the 50th.(praying that Covid is gone by then), My best wishes to all my past classmates.
