More about Jon:"Originally from Columbia. Born at Providence. Lived at 3056 Sigmund Circle (29204) from June 1962 to May 1976. I still remember our phone number with the "Alpine" prefix! Briefly attended Colonial Heights Baptist Pre-School. I believe Mrs. Blount was the teacher. The next significant event(after my mother "brought" Chris, my younger brother from the Columbia Hospital) I faintly remember at that age was at Covenant Presbyterian Church when my cousin Carroll Whichard married Hugh Simril. I caught the garter! I went to Timmerman Kindergarten when it was on Covenant Rd. and was a member of the June Bug Club which aired on ETV for a while. I never was one of the 6 or so regular kids on the show. I don't know why I remember this, but a regular June Bug child named Tommy was sitting on the bench with the others and he sat up too quick and banged his head on the back of the bench and had to be lead off th...Expand for more
e set which at the time was located on Millwood Ave. "Miss Ladybug" Timmerman was of course our leader and I remember when she had laryngitis and had to control the kindergartners without trying to speak! (Easier then, than now!). Andy Volin was the first to show me how to pull the sap from a honeysuckle bloom that of course grew from the vine behind the kindergarten. That was also the border. I don't believe it was fenced but you knew better than to cross it. Roger Rainwater was one of my friends at Timmerman and at Sigmund Circle, and he was three days younger than me. It meant a lot back then! Ben Wyman brought a Matchbox Car to Timmerman, my first time seeing one. From the 3rd grade on we became the best of friends and we still are. Still have K-5 graduation photos. My mother told me at Timmerman I saw an American flag leaning in a closet, and I stopped to say the pledge! Proud Mama. We sang This Land is Your Land for our graduation not knowing the political unrest at the time. We rode home in Timmerman School's stationwagon with the roll handle controlled rear window. Got a picture of that too! No seat belts then. We just bounced around the back!".
