Jonathan's Story
I grew up in Newbury Park until I was about 17 [Junior at Newbury Park High School (NPHS)]. Although I went to 2 elementary schools, 2 jr high schools and 2 high schools, graduating somewhere in the Antelope Valley (not by choice - parents decided to move summer between Jr and Sr year), I identify mostly with Banyan elementary, Redwood jr high and NPHS, since I spent most of my tenure accordingly at each level respectively.
After high school, I held a couple of odd jobs as dog groomer and veterinarian assistant before I landed in corporate America at Health Net in 1992. Since then I've only been out of the health care industry for 5 years where I cruised the dot com bubble in silicon valley for a year and then owned my own business doing pool & spa repair between 2001-2005, landing back in health care a...Expand for more

I lived around the San Fernando Valley, Hollywood and L.A. area after moving out from my parents' place during the first half of my corporate life. But my biggest move was to the San Francisco Bay area in 1998 where I currently live in Oakland (East Bay as it's called). My 10th year anniversary in the bay area just passed. Some say I can now say I'm from here, but I will always remember where I came from.
Although I love the cultural diversity of the bay area, Newbury Park will always be home. I go back every so often to see the fleeting landscape and think about much simpler times (yes, we all say it when we're older, but it's true) and much larger fields, hills and mountains. I will always be thankful that I grew up near the foothills of Mt. Boney.
