Jonathan's Story
Life
Jonathan C. Javitt, MD, MPH is a physician with a background in health informatics, health services research, and epidemiology. Dr. Javitt graduated in 1978 with honors from Princeton University with an A.B. in Biochemistry and earned his M.D. at Cornell University Medical College, where he was awarded the Lasdon Award for excellence in research and an International College of Surgeons traveling fellowship. He was awarded a Kellogg Foundation Fellowship to attend the Harvard School of Public Health, where from which he graduated with an M.P.H. in Health Services Administration. In 1990, Dr. Javitt was recruited to Georgetown University in order to found the Worthen Center for Eye Care Research and to participate in founding Georgetowns masters degree program in health policy. He is the author of more than 200 medical books, chapters, articles, and abstracts related to health care delivery and holds two U.S. patents.

the White House Health Reform Task Force and as an expert consultant to the World Bank, the National Institutes of Health, the Health Care Financing Administration, Department of Veterans Affairs, the Department of Justice, and the ministries of health of United Kingdom, Sweden, Australia, Japan, and the Netherlands.
In 1984, Dr. Javitt authored the first book on computers in medicine and co-founded Health Care Computer Associates, which developed the first physician office management system offered by Shared Medical Systems (NYSE:SMSI). In 1995, he founded Certitude, Inc., which merged with United Health Care (NYSE:UNH) in 1998, at which point Dr. Javitt was appointed Senior Vice President and National Medical Director.
He is listed in Whos Who in the World and has been elected to membership in the Cosmos Club (Washington, DC) and the Royal Ocean Racing Club (London, UK). Dr. Javitt lives in Maryland with his wife, Marcia Javitt, three children and four dogs.
