Joseph's Story

Life After graduation I decided to further polish the architectual drafting skills Mr. Powell managed to beat into me with an Associates Degree from Trinidad Junior College in 1966. Uncle SAM then decided I needed to spend a couple of years in and around (then) South Vietnam. In 1968 I returned to good old Colo. Spgs., and went to work for Hewlett Packard. That's the company who produced the computer I'm now using. In 1970 this missionary priest came to town, put on an impressive slide show about the missionary work in Southern Mexico. He was really looking for donations but I stepped up to the plate and said, "take me". You know, like that Donkey character in Shrek. So I spent two very rewarding and interesting years in a small village in the Southern Mexican state of Oaxaca. I didn't do any preaching, Lord knows, the Vatican would never have recovered from my heathen ways. I did however design and build a medical clinic along with other projects in another village. Sort of unofficial "Peace Corp" type work. That's where I met my wife who was a nurse in the village. We didn't like each other much at first but then after nearly two years of me and my mud and bricks and accompanying her around the village making sick calls; well, one thing led to another. In 1972 we came ba...Expand for more
ck to Colo. Spgs. but the economy and jobs didn't look too good so we moved to South Texas. I continued my academic pursuits at Texas A&M University and graduated in 1977 with a bachelor of science degree in Civil Engineering. In 1978 I went to work for the Federal Highway Administration. We're the guys you kind, generous taxpayers pay 40.3 cents out of every gallon you hard earned dollars every time you go to the gas pump. After various assignments in Texas, Oklahoma, Arizona, California, North Dakota, we finally settled here in Colorado. We have three children. Our oldes daughter, earned her bachelor of science degree in Petroleum Engineering at Colorado School of Mines. Our middle son works as a mechanical engineer for the FAA and the youngest, received his masters in urban planning at CU Denver. He works for the Federal Highway Administration. We also have one grandson and he's the real gem in our lives. As of December 31, 2010 I am retired from FHWA. Since then my wife and I have been enjoying retirement. We have done some traveling. Our most memorable trip was to Israel last November. I just can't seem to stop working so I got this small part time gig at Home Depot. I find great satisfaction and enjoyment in helping people with their projects both large and small.

Quelites are doing very well this year. What most people in this country consider a weed is really a wild spinach type of plant. People in Mexico and older generation Hispanics in the U.S. enjoy this delicious wild food.
Down memory lane. This was a really beautiful theater. It was originally built as an opera house in 1911. It was called the Burns theater. It had three balconies and side private booths. The Foyer had these huge beauti
Great way to start the day. A slice of "Pan de Yema" from Oaxaca.
Gooooooood morning folks! What a lovely spring day in Colorado.
We left Denver about three hours ago, snowing and 34 degrees. Now we are here in Bismarck, North Dakota, 58 degrees and really nice. Our son is selling his home. It's a really nice historical home. Anybody thinking o
West side of Wolf Creek pass.
The wife said spring time in the Rockies is really here. Time for your regular bath. I protested saying I took one for my birthday but, oh well, okay. Now we have to call the plumber to clean out the drain.🤣
The drive was really nice over Grand Mesa. From 80 degrees in Delta back to winter atop of Grand Mesa. 😱 I guess the word had not gotten out to the folks on top of Grand Mesa that "global warming" is in effect. 🤣
Good morning Colorado!😁
While going through some old papers, I found an extra copy of an old Texas A&I 1977 year book. If anyone out there, especially a former Texas A&I alumni would be interested in having this year book please let me know and
