Joseph's Story

Life What an adventure! After HS, I ran away to the Navy, spent four tours in Japan, one in Spain, and one in Australia. Travelled to more countries than I ever dreamed of, got old and fat, and retired from the Navy in 2002. I now work for the government, live in Maryland with my wife and two children, who were of course "made in Japan" during my third tour there. For now my hobbies are mainly outdoor, as I am a Scout leader in the Troop where my boys are members, and serve as a trainer for new adult leaders in the region. ing overnight on the Appalachian Trail, and just to make me comfortable, we've done some overnight visits to the former USS New Jersey, one of the four battleships that were recommissioned during my active duty days. I had spent a good bit of my Navy time at sea, but it was much different with the Scouts--probably a bigger challenge than Desert Storm.
