Joseph's Story
Life
ItÂs a little awkward trying to write about myself. It seems kind of vain, but here it goes anyway. I hope its not too boring.
After high school I went to Boston Conservatory and have worked, at least part time, as a musician ever since. Some of my other jobs have included insurance sales (donÂt recommend it) and I owned a cleaning business for a while as well.
I met my bride in 1978 and we got married in the spring of 83. WeÂve been happily married ever since. We have two children. Our daughter graduated from college last year and is now working in the Quincy school system. Our son is now in his second year of college and doing well. We are proud of them. My family and I live within a mile or so from the home where I grew up.
Several years ago I felt a calling to ministry, went back to school to study, and was ordained in 2004 as a Catholic deacon. One of the most interesting and most fulfilling aspects of my training was a chaplaincy internship some of us did at Brigham and WomenÂs Hospital. After ordination I was first assigned to St. ElizabethÂs Parish in Milton and IÂm now assigned to Saint BenedictÂs pari...Expand for more
sh in Somerville. I do all the things you might expect a minister to do. Unlike a priest I cannot say Mass though I do preach and take part in other aspects of the liturgy. I canÂt hear confessions either but I am bound by clergy confidentiality when people come to me. Deacons can also baptize, preside at marriages, preside at funerals outside of Mass, wake services, burials, benedictions and other prayer services. I also serve the parish as their business manager.
Recently we began to take the vacations we werenÂt able to do while we were busy raising our children and trying to make ends meet. WeÂve taken a few cruises, my personal favorite vacation. A couple of years ago we also purchased an interest in the Disney Vacation Club. It is one of the most flexible vacation deals IÂve ever seen. It may not sound like much but I assure you itÂs not all about Âthe mouse. And their accommodations are first rate. We expect to use our Disney points for a trip to Italy next year.
Well, I canÂt think of anything else right now, I hope youÂve all been well and successful, Maybe IÂll be able to make the next reunion.
Peace!
