Joseph's Story
Life
After graduation in 1964, I attended a Chef's training school in Chicago for two years and graduated in 1966. I worked at several hotels and clubs in Chicago and then decided I would like to travel. I worked winters in Florida and summers in Long Island New York and North Carolina in the Blue Ridge Mountains. I came to Las Vegas in 1969 to attend UNLV's school of hotel management. I opened my own restaurants out here in 1974 and sold them in 1980 to go into the gambling industry. I started dealing at Caesar's Palace and worked at various casinos like Caesar's Tahoe, The Sands, The Landmark and The Dunes. In 1989, I opened the Mirage as the casino shift manager and in 1992, I became the VP of Table Games at Treasure Island. I designed, built and opened that casino in October of 1993. e Senior VP of Casino Operations at the MGM Grand. I left there in February of this year to go into business for myself. I just recently purchased a sports bar-something I always wanted to do. It has the two qualities I like in a business-no coat and tie and cold beer!
I have been married for 25 years to Linda and have two children-Chris,18, who attends the University of Pennsylvania and Kelly, 15, who is a freshman at Las Vegas Academy for the Performing Arts. She is a violinist.
Right now I'm just killing time waiting for my gaming and liquor license investigations to be done in order to take over the sports bar.
Workplace
I WAS FORMERLY THE SENIOR VICE PRESIDENT OF CASINO OPERATIONS AT THE MGM AND TREASURE ISLAND HERE IN LAS VEGAS. IN THE LAST YEAR, I PURCHASED A SPORTS BAR CALLED THE BREWERY BAR AND GRILL AND I LOVE IT!
