Joseph's Story

I graduated from Los Fresnos High School in May 1970. I competed for a Nomination to the United States Military Academy, received a Principal Nomination and later Appointment by the Hon. Kika de Garza of the 15 Congressional District in the Rio Grande Valley. I reported to West Point on 1 July 1970. I graduated and received my BS degree from West Point and was designated as an Engineer-in-Training by the Board for Professional Engineers in Pennsylvania. I earned a MBA and MA (Spanish) from the University of Arkansas and a MS in National Resource Strategy from the Industrial College of the Armed Forces (ICAF) at the National Defense University (NDU). o I am the CEO and Founder of JFIII Associates a retained executive search consultancy offering search, sourcing, coaching and mentoring for transitioning military members and executives. I have coached 719 executives, veterans and or students as of 11 April 2024. Since July 2021, I am an independent Board Director for American Infrastructure Group, Inc. (AIGI). Currently, I finished a two stint as President of the West Point Society of Greater Houston. I remain on the Board. o I am Award Winning Co-Author of an eBook entitled, "LinkedIn: The 5-Minute Drill for Executive Networking Success. It has received Gold (Career Development) and Silver (Business) in the Daniel Poynter Global e-Book Competition for 2017. Morgan James Publishing published this book in multiple media forms. McF Associates is a retained search consultancy that performs retained executive search, interim executive placement and interim technical executive placement in the United States for its clients. o Previously I was associated with an upper 2% national retained search firm for 2+ years operating in the Houston area. o I was a Principal for Horseshoe Group, Inc. (HGI) in Houston, Texas. My particular focus is HGI's cooperative joint venture with their Chinese partners to acquire, build and operate water and wastewater infrastructure in China. I actively consult for diversified services and logistics companies on their DoD and DOE programs and proposals. o Have 40+ years experience in leading small to large organizations in project management of supply chain functions. I successfully commanded once at the Lieutenant Colonel (LTC) level and twice at the Colonel (COL) level. Speak Spanish, some German and have experience working issues in South Korea, China, the Mideast, the Carribean and Europe. o Have led 20+ years at the senior management level leading organizations or working on the corporate level staff solving logistical, transportation, and consequence management issues in national and international settings. o Led a diverse organization of over 3,000 specialists in four divisions comprising twenty-eight business units which performed logistics and service operations on average in eighteen different countries a month. o Led as a Division Director for Joint Logistical Operations for transportation, petroleum management, consequence management, and logistics for the east coast and entire Atlantic geographic area for Joint Operations. o More recently, I was the Chief of Staff and a Director for the Army and Air Force Exchange Service (AAFES), the "Wal-Mart" of the U.S. Military--the 12th largest retailer in the U.S. AAFES is an international multi-channel retail operation with $7.6 billion in revenue, and 53,000 associates world-wide. This was my last assignment in the U.S. Army and retired from active military service on 30 Jun 2004 to enter the private sector. o 1 July 1970 -30 June 2004 I served on active duty as cadet and then Regular Army commissioned officer in the infantry. I served and led in mechanized, airborne, air assault and special forces units for fourteen years then branch transferred to the Quartermaster Corps (logistics) for the last sixteen years. I served in Asia, Europe, Africa, and North America and commanded at the platoon, company, battalion, brigade and installation level.
