Josephine's Story

Wow! What have I been up to? I got into a lot of trouble with my Mustang in Lorain. I got a lot of speeding tickets and my Father called the judge and told him to suspend my license for awhile. He did. Then a guy I was engaged to got picked up for dragracing on Broadway ( which I never did. Ha Ha!) and my Dad was furious. I told him my car could beat the other car. The next day I had a '67 Mustang, automatic, 6 cyl. and I raced it too. I obtained the name of Mustang Sally with the first car. In 1968 I had a baby girl and gave her up for adoption. Not too many people knew and it was better that way. Then, 18 months later I had a baby boy and a lot of you know him, Tony. I then went to work at Uncle Bills in Rocky River and still worked at the store. I came home one day and Tony called my Mom, Mom and I quit Uncle Bills. In 1983 my Dad and Mom decided to sell the delicatessen!!!!! What a shock that was. I always thought the store would be mine. I miss it sooo much to this day. Also in 1983 I met Dusty. He was a friend of a friend of mine and he was a biker without a bike. I didn't think this would go anywhere and we were married 9 months later. I seem to do things in 9 month time frames. My Dad opened a consignment shop in Sheffield Lake and it was ok, but it was too quiet and we closed it in a year. I worked at IGA for about 6 months and I sure didn't like working for someone else instead of family. I quit there in about 6 months. Tony got married and we became grandparents; Tony got divorced; Tony got married and we became grandparents (no, I'm not repeating myself). Dusty and I bought a big house in LaGrange in 1994 with a pool, it was on the corner of Lions Park and it was very peaceful. Tony and his second family moved in and then to Vermilion and the house got too empty. In 1996 we sold it in 3 weeks and moved back to Amherst to be closer to my Mom cause my Dad had passed away in '95. In 1998 Tony said he wanted to know about the baby I gave up and would like to find her. My heart skipped a beat and I met a person that had found their daughter through a registry called International Soundex Reunion Registry. I had named her Deborah Ann. I sent my paper in and contacted Catholic Social Services and they told me there had been some activity on the file a while back and she would see if the number still worked and she would tell her to send in a form also. The two people that were my contacts were Tony with the registry and Debbie with Catholic Social Services. I figured everything would work out good because I had named her Deborah and of course Tony. How much of a coincidence is that?? Th...Expand for more
ey rec'd my paperwork on Dec. 23, '97 and then I got a call that my daughter's name is Lisa Ann and we had 3 more grandchildren!!! He gave her my number and she called on Jan. 2, 1998 and my daughters first words to me were "Happy Birthday!" My birthday is New Years Day. We all met at Perkins on Rt. 250 on Jan. 3 and had a really nice time. Her Mom doesn't want to meet me, but her Dad did and he said "Thank you for my daughter." You can't even imagine what that was like. She is a wonderful young lady, her husband is really nice and the kids are great. Their daughter has a little one now so we are now Great-grandparents. Tony was ok with all this, but you know, he's an only child and I think he's decided he wants it that way. The next Christmas looked like a department store in the spare room. She wrote a poem about her, Tony and me and it's beautiful. She looks just like my family in Akron. My Mom came to live with us in Spring '06 and passed away in the fall of the same year and I miss her terribly as I had not really been close to her growing up and the months she was here I really got to know her. She was a beautiful person. I volunteered at the Hospice Center of St. Joseph in 1996 doing secretarial things. I'm sure those of you that were in my typing class are shocked!!! In 1999 I was hired in as the secretary and I was amazed. All I could do is imagine the look on Mrs. Butler's face!!! I was laid off in 2003 with 50 other people throughout the hospital system. The experience of working there was wonderful and I have many wonderful memories of it. Yes, there are angels there. I miss being there, but it all worked out for the best. I learned some invaluable lessons there and was able to have my Mom here when she became ill and take care of her. She had Alzheimer's and Dusty has also been diagnosed with Dementia, but the doctors aren't sure if it's Alzheimer's. Through all this in 1989 Dusty and I became involved with the Vietnam Veterans of America and the Vietnam Veterans of Lorain County. We all worked hard to build a Memorial to the 98 young men that gave their lives from Lorain County. It stands next to the Amherst Police Station, right off Rt. 2 at the Oak Point Rd. exit and go south. It is beautiful and just like the Wall in D.C. it is lit and open all night. We have 3 dogs...12 yr. old Eskimo, 5 yr. old Cocker Spaniel that looks for reflections all day and a 2 yr. old Australian Shepherd mix and he tries to herd the other two and they don't like him. He is so smart it's scary. That's my story. I look forward to hearing from you. Please give me a call...440-988-0100. God Bless, Jo
