Josette's Story
I attended Queensborough Community College majored in Business Administration. I then attended College For Human Services and obtained my Bachelors Degree in HumanServices/Mental Health Counseling. During those years I worked for YAI as an Assistant Teacher for Mentally Challenged Adults, then I worked for A-Way Out, Inc. as a Drug Counselor for Adolescent/Adult clients. I returned to my school District 18 and worked as a Substance Abuse Prevention Intervention Specialist at PS244/208 conducted classroom presentations about drugs/gangs to grades K-6 in a creative manner. vidual and group counseling. Finally, I accepted a job at NYC Department of Correction as a Substance Abuse Counselor a Mayor Koch's program. My motto, "God sent me to bring you out of the dark into the light". I counseled Adolescent/Adult male/female inmates for 18 years with substance abuse issues or related charges,and assisted them with alternative to incarceration programs. Then in 2007, I became a Peace Officer and became an Investigator for a NYCDOC. I have a few more years before retiring, so I am working on my next journey to go to Law School next year. To eventually, be a voice for those whom cannot be heard.
