Joshua's Story

Life After VNHS, I went to UCLA undergraduate. Spent all of my time studying, little time having fun. (Those who know me will not be surprised.) Then, just before starting law school I served two years as a Conscientious Objector during the Vietnam War. I worked in two hospitals as an intern. At one of those hospitals I met my soon-to-be-wife who was a nurse. We married, I went to law school at UCLA, and after I short time I stumbled into law teaching, which has proven to be the best stumble of my life. I have taught in law schools in Minnesota, Detroit, Sacramento, and now Columbus, with visits to other law schools in the USA...Expand for more
, Canada, and New Zealand. My wife, Dottie, converted to Judaism when we lived in Minnesota. We have one son, and are now the proud grandparents of four grandchildren. We have been mostly blessed, and we have few reasons to complain. As we get older we take less and less for granted, but I bet that is true for everyone else. I officially retired on August 31, 2017, after 40 years of law teaching, although I continue to teach one semester a year and continue to update four books I wrote that are used in law schools. I remain a devoted Dodgers fan (and dedicated one of my books to Sandy Koufax for refusing to pitch on Yom Kippur.)
