Joshua's Story

Life Been spending my time getting old... ;0 Left high school, Went to Rutgers, studied stuff like Soviet defense policy, Soviet foreign policy. Then the Cold War ended. Drifted into legislative politics. Worked in the NJ State Assembly Majority office, for a US Congressman, as a spokesperson for the NJ Dept. of Labor. Worked on or managed a myriad of different campaigns, state races, US Congress, US Senate. Went back to school for a master's degree because working blows. Lived in Washington DC, going to American University, though I took a semester off to work a US Senate campaign. Left DC to work for the International Republican Institute which sends political hacks like myself around the world to spread democracy. Lived in Tbilisi, in the ex-Soviet Republic of Georgia for a year (highly recommended) Lived in Baku, in the ex-Soviet Republic of Azerbaijan for a year (not so highly recommended) Quit IRI right after the war to go to Baghdad in 2003 to help set up local governing councils. Got booted from Iraq for staying the wrong thing on my blog (there's actually a word for this.....Expand for more
.dooced - bloggers take note!) Worked as a field guy on the Bush campaign for most of 2004 in Pennsylvania. Afterwards got a job again in Iraq working for the National Democratic Institute (life is full of ironies.) Currently working with the staff of the Iraqi National Assembly, trying to get them on track. Except for the occasional mortar, everything's very cool. Lessee, what else. Extremely unmarried. (Amazing, no?) Extremely in debt to the government for school loans. Still like STAR TREK (klingons rule) Like to try to have fun skiing (not much in Iraq), playing hockey (certainly not much in Iraq), wargaming(no opponents in Iraq - why play wargames when you can just go out and shoot people?), wasting time on the Net (very big pass time in Iraq) and when I can get motivated, being a very amatuer stand up comic. No money, no girlfriend, no wife - no house, no kids, no life... Just trying to have fun and avoid any sort of real responsibility. Which I guess is pretty much the same thing I was trying to do in high school. It's amazing how little I've actually progressed since I was 18.
