Joshua's Story

Life I've got nearly fifteen years to encapsulate in one paragraph. I guess I should start with my wife, Holly. She and I celebrate our 10th anniversary this April (05). After going through my entire high school career without a single, succesful dating relationship, I struck gold with her and now I'm the luckiest guy on earth. We've got three kids now, Hannah (8) Susanna (7) and Isaiah (5). I couldn't ask for a better family than the one I've got. My post high-school life may have been a huge success in love and family, but it seemed to drag career-wise. I worked some odd jobs there in Snohomish, had a brief stint with the Postal Service, drove forklifts, delivered produce and stacked lumber by hand. In a perverse sort of downward spiral I eventually wound up working for Honeybucket, cleaning portable toilets for a living. This is not the glamorous work envisioned by most ambitious high-schoolers. In my defense, I must say that I was darn good at what I did; and when you've got to feed your family you do what you have to. That particular job lasted for a little more than one year. ed (through extension courses) to work as a pastor in our denomination. I had to wait three years to find a position, which is how our family landed in Montana, close to Billings. I'm still not rich, but being a pastor isn't something you do for the money. Much better - I am truly happy with what I do and with the people here. My family is my main joy and thrill in life, and things couldn't get much better. The one fairly consistent challenge that keeps my wife and me on our toes is our second child, Susanna. She was born with a very very rare genetic disorder that comes with all kinds of bells and whistles which are much too long and complex to explain here. The upshot of it is that she keeps us hopping, without much time to relax or recoup. But love makes the world go round, and more importantly, it makes you want to do all you can for those who mean the most for you. So all of the effort and energy we put into raising her doesn't seem like a sacrifice at all. Allthough it's difficult, it's more than worth it. It gives us something more back. If you have kids, you know what I mean. That's all for now. Signing out - Josh McFarland
