Joyce Roach, a native Texan, spent her childhood and high school years involved in city and country life in a town of 5,000 residence. She holds a MS in vertebrate zoology from Texas Tech University, BS in biology from Tarleton State University, and a Texas secondary teaching certificate. Joyce accumulated 15 years of high school biology teaching and a year of university instructing under a graduate teaching fellowship. Joyce started flying in 1971 and holds an airline transport rating with the Beech 1900/300 type rating. She holds a flight instructor (ASEL, ASES, AMEL, AI) and ground instructor (advanced, instrument). Joyce logged 5,000+ flight hours as a charter pilot, chief corporate pilot and flight instructor. She worked for six months as an Air Traffic Control data specialists, six months as Flight Service Station specialists (developmental), 8 ½ years as a Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) principal operations investigator, and 5 years as a FAA designated pilot examiner. Joyce worked for the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) as an air safety investigator for 12 ½ years. In September 1968, Joyce accepted Jesus as her savior.
