Joyce's Story

Life Let's see, after I graduated from Bryant, I still lived in Astoria, NY, started working at The American Institute of Physics in Manhattan, that was for a short period of time 1978-1979. I then started working for Blue Cross Blue Shield on 34th and Park, from 1979-1989 or so. During this time I became engaged to my childhood sweetheart, we got married in 1981,and moved to Staten Island, NY I became pregnant with twins and had to go out on long term disability after they were born, due to a heart condition brought on by the pregnancy. My son and daughter are currently 23 and doing well. I am working for the New York City dept. of Education. I work with the Autistic population, and love every minute of it. In March of 2009, I will be married to my sweetheart for 28 years. Michael is my heart, and my hero, I love him dearly. I now live in New Jersey with the kids who aren't kids, my husband, our Black lab Bandit, our Golden/Cocker Spaniel mix named Sasha, and our rabbits, Peanut and Pumpkin. Our Daughter Lisa, and her daughter Brianna. And our son Michael Jr. I would not change a thing. (Well maybe one or two things) School I went to Queens Lutheran School from 1965/66-1974 I went to William C. Bryant High School from 1974-1978 I also went to the College of Staten Island in 1998. Queens Lutheran School, there are so many people that I remember. However, one teacher who was a strong force in my life was Mr Scanlon. He pushed all of us to do our best, and it paid off. He would be proud to know that I am working with autistic children. The students from Trinity, you all know who you are and how we all ha...Expand for more
ve affected each others lives. I also remember with fondness and sometimes a little bit of sadness, one or 2 of the many niknames used at Trinity: Finn, Finny Finn Finn, and because if my height, FrankinFinny One or 2 close friends still call me Finn. Bryant.......hmmmmmmmmmmm there were very few teachers that I truly liked. 4 however were my favorites. Mr Danas for Accounting, I was late quite a bit, and he never marked me absent. I only lived a half a block from the school, and was late all the time! Mr Osorio for Astronomy,Mr. Weber for Art, and Mr Lipton for American Law. They were my favorites. One of the wildest things I can remember doing in school was sitting in homeroom helping some of the gang roll a few joints and figure out how much they would sell for. There were quite a few students that I can honestly say I cared about. But in sitting here thinking, 2 popped into my head right away. Larry Holloway, and Michael Reidy. Oh and Keith Bennett ( I think that was his last name) who was on the basketball team. He was so darned tall, and always nice to me. Ok enough about the class of 78 for now. Workplace I work for the New York City Department of Ed in Staten Island in an all special Ed school.I work with the Autistic Population. I love my job. Life just does not get any better. My favortite way to relax is to cook. Cooking is a fine way to relax and take your mind off things. My family has a nick name for me they call me Betty Crocker. If I would be given the chance to go to culinery school, I would love it. Or to meet Bobby Flay or Sara Moulton. That to me would be the ultimate achievement.
