Joyce Dugan:

CLASS OF 1964

Joyce's Story

Life My life has surely been a journey of the unexpected. I have B.A. from Northwestern University - got a great education there and am thankful for those Illinois state scholarships. I had careers in commercial real estate and banking, but after one too many divestitures, decided to follow my bliss. I worked for the City of Chicago for four years, the greatest working experience ever, and now am President/CEOof a not for profit, the Uptown United, the City's ecomonic development agency for Uptown Chiago. I work six blocks from home and love my job very much. Traditionally a port of entry for immigrants and refugees, and I work with everyone from newly arrived Bosnians to Tibetan monks. I find it is the kind of world we talked about in the 1960s, and if it took me forty years to get here, so be it. I am married to Tim Dugan, who is a master furniture builder, computer...Expand for more
geek, and my soul mate. Our lives aren't perfect, but I can't think of what I would change. I think about our high school days often. We were just ahead of the heavy drug culture in high school and Sunny Hills was, all in all, a very good school (although I do remember some of us were kind of bumbed out because we wanted to go to FUHS because they had more "traditions"). Although I lived in California from 1955 to 1965, I was born in Chicago and will probably die here. I am a Chicagoan through and through and looking out my office window at Wrigley Field with the skyline of the Loop in the distance is the greatest sight in the world. While this bio probably sounds a bit idyllic, and I admit I left out the rough spots, I say What the Heck! This is where I am right now and that's OK. Sorry I'll miss you all at the 45th, but I spent too much vacation time in Montana!
