Joye's Story

Life My second married name is Joye Criss. My husband Stan and I have been married 19 years. We have lived in his hometown of Pine City, NY since 1989, and are preparing to move back to Calif. in just a couple of short weeks from the date of this writing. Between the 2 of us we have 4 children and 3 grandkids. My 2 kids from my first marraige to Jim Smolin are Jeremy age 30 and Janay age 25. Janay has 2 children. Jaylun age 6 and Jay-Cee age 4. Stan' children from his first marriage is Chuck age 35 and Michael age 30. Stan and I met many years ago in Port Hueneme, Calif when Jeremy and Michael played in Little League together. We have experienced many ups and downs just like most people, and blending 2 families was one of our greatest accomplishments. Chuck, who lives in Alaska (his mother's native land) has a 3 year old son Stanley, whom Chuck is raising as a single parent. Fortanately they have been able to visit us here in NY, so we have gotten to see and know our youngest grandchild. The other 2 grandchildren, Jaylun and Jay-Cee lived here in NY up until just last year. They now live back in Port Hueneme, Calif, although miss NY very, very much. The type of living is quite different, as the boys were raised in the country. A creek runs beside our house on 1 acre of land. We don't lock our doors, enjoy bon-fires at night, swimming in our pool, 4-wheel riding, and much more. Janay and boys are now living in an apartment with Janay's father, Jim Smolin. They can't ride their bikes inside the complex, although live right by the beach. After so many years here, it will be a big change for us as well, in moving back to Calif....Expand for more
My mother passed away almost 4 years ago, my dad lives alone, still on Pacific Ave. He has since developed emacular eye degeneration and is now legally blind. We will be living with him upon our return. Not being able to afford to buy a house in Calif, due to the OUTRAGEOUS cost of housing, we will either continue to live my with dad indefinately, (something he would like) or perhaps we might purhase a Mobile Home. My husband Stan works for an Engineering firm here in NY and plans on still continuing his employment with that firm and opening up work for them in Calif. This was a blessing to be able to do this as I am disabled and my medical can be quite expensive, so being able to keep our medical insurance as well as Medicare will be good for us. I have an autoimmune disease called Lupus, also Fibromyalgia. I take alot of meds, have good days and bad days. The move to Calif. will hopefully be good for my health, due to the weather conditions here in NY. Stan & I are Christians, and over the years have been extremely active not only in our church but in many Christian activities. Stan plays the guitar, I play the tamborine and we enjoy doing praise music, have been in praise bands and have played and traveled all over North Central NY. We both have been active in prison ministries, peace and justice issues and in an ecumenical movement called Walk to Emmaus. My last employment before becoming ill was a Church Secretary for 5 years. The denomination were are members of is United Methodist, however are comfortable and are able to worship in and with just about any denomination. This concludes for now "About my Life"
