Juanita's Story

Oakland Tech has never been far from my heart. The many classmates and friends I had during my attendance, remain the very best in my life!! I was from a military family so I always knew that we would be moving. This time, when I entered Oakland Tech in my sophomore year, I felt rooted and loved by so many. I begged my father in my junior year (1968) to please let me graduate from here and not take me away! He did that exactly--the summer of 1968. My heart was broken because for the first time in my life, I BELONGED. All of you still remain in my heart and fondest memories...including the boy that threw a film reel at me in Mr. Hiram Stephens' biology class! Althou...Expand for more
gh, I have lost touch with my two best friends, Virginia Lee Griffin and Gwen Williams, I have never stopped thinking that someday we shall all meet again! I moved to Hawaii the summer of 1968 and graduated from Waipahu High but I always consider Oakland Tech as my school! I got married at age 20, moved to St. Louis, MO, in 1972, earned a Certificate in Banking from AIB in 1979. In 1982, I moved back to Hawaii, where my dad decided to retire. He died the following year. I was blessed with my son, AJ, in January 1988. I have worked for the Federal Government in Acctg and Budget for 30 years and now retired as of Dec. 2010. Now on with searching for my passion in life.
