Juanita's Story

2015 My how time flies when you are having fun!!! Since my last post in 2012, Mike, my husband of 36 years, retired from American Eagle Airlines a year ago. He didn't think he would like retirement, but keeps busier now than when he was working. (His words, not mine!) He is the Secretary of the Home Owners Association so gets all the headaches he needs from that, including keeping track of problems at the community pool and approving improvements and watching the money situation. We purchased a 2011 pop-up trailer last month after taking a Teardrop to the 5 year Class Reunion in Edgemont. We found it to be a little small for 2 old, fat people to get into and out of easily. (You needed to be an acrobat & limber, both of these do NOT describe us!). Anyway, it is a 2011, that we bought on Craig's list. The man we bought it from said he and his family had only used it 3 times. It does smell new and Mike is checking everything out and making sure hoses etc are working correctly. It has a A/c, heater, hot water heater, stove, very small refrigerator, sink, potty, shower, queen size bed, double bed, and table & benches make into a bed. He says all he needs to fix now is the emergency brake. Their dog ate one of the tail light covers and chewed on the cable to the emergency brake. We are looking forward to getting out of Texas for the SUMMERS!!!! (At least I am!) Before the Class Reunion we went to NE to see my mothers only living sibling who is 86 now. He is doing well, just hard of hearing. TV :& radio full volume!. Then to Edgemont for 5 days, then headed out for Powell,WY to see one of my cousins (who told me we hadn't seen each other since his sister got married 50 years ago). Had a great visit with him and his wife, then left to go to Cody, WY where my Uncle used to own the K-Z Dude Ranch. Dad had helped him build some of the buildings and most of my family have been up there, but I never had, so cross that off my "bucket list" list. We spent one night there then headed home. Passed through Casper,WY and stopped to see an old friend who had purchased the T-6 from Tired Iron Race Team. He still has the airplane and now has a large Museum which he has all organized and goes back to WW2 and probably some stuff before that. Has things I wonder how he got them....On Thursday, the owner of the trailer called and said he needed us to return it Sunday afternoon instead of Monday morning so we drove 18 hours Friday, 12 hours Saturday, and got the trailer cleaned out and returned by 10am Sunday. We all 3 (the dog & us) took 2 days ...Expand for more
to get going again! But are excited now that we have our own trailer and can come & go as we want. I have had 2 back surgeries, dislocated my right shoulder and broke it, and had cataract surgery all in the past 3 years. Mike has learned to be a GREAT nurse through it all. I am now getting injections in my knees to help the arthritis so I don't have to have knee replacements and they work really well. (1 each knee every 6 months). Have had problems with falling, and the neurologist says it is the beginning of Parkinsons. I am trying to get him and the Orthopedic Surgeon together to see if my back is part of the problem as they told me my vertebrae are slowly moving down. Anyway, can't let it get me down so keep going and going and know it will get better or worse but can't wait around for it. Christy & Eddie bought a beautiful new house in Spring Hill and love it. Their 2 bassett hounds love all the wildlife that comes into the yard -- rabbits and 1 armadillo so far! Shaun is still living with us. He did go to electrician school. His biggest complaint is how hot it is outside. I would hate to work out there too. His brother, Tanner, graduated high school this spring and has started college in Nashville. There is a lot more homework and he is still working at Walgreens so he is very busy!. David stays busy at his job. He also bought a house and put solar panels on it. We will see how well that does especially if it hails! Kerri decided to wait awhile to go to college so is working at an Apple call center. So now I have both her and David to bug when I have computer questions! Mary Kay is planning (?) to retire from the railroad in 2 years and can't hardly wait. She is a Grandma to a 2 year old and a 9 month old--both boys! They keep everyone on their toes and both go 90 miles an hour. The baby wants to keep up with the older one so is trying to walk. She is also busy with her 3 step-granddaughters and their activities. She just returned from a 12 day cruise/railroad inland ride to Alaska with a bunch of her friends. They had a really good time. For those of you who do not know it, our Mom passed away 2 years ago this month. She had ovarian cancer and passed within 2 months of being diagnosed. She stayed at Mary Kay's up until 5 days before passing. Mike, I, and the dog all moved to her house for the last 3 weeks when Mom was getting weaker. We all miss her, but she lived a good long life! If you are ever in the Dallas area, give me a call at 817-929-1915, maybe we can have lunch or something (if we are in town)! ! Nita
