Judi's Story
After graduation, I met my future husband when June Woods talked me into riding with her to El Paso to drop off her boyfriend (Abel Lara) at Ft. Bliss, where he was going through basic training. While I was waiting for them to finish saying goodbye (making out), I got out of the car and started walking around. My soon-to-be husband was a drill sergeant there (age 20) and he saw me walking around. Abel squealed like a pig and told him everything about me. The following nite he showed up at my house in LC and came to see me every day until we got married 4 months later. He was the most persistant man!We moved to his home in New York when he was discharged in May of 1967, where our first son, Todd, was born in late November. Later we moved to Colorado and my husband graduated from CSU in 1972. When my youngest brother, Mike, died of a brain tumor at age 12 in 1975, we moved back to Las Cruc...Expand for more
es to be closer to my folks. I worked for Terry Wood at the Mission Inn until my husband and I opened our CPA practice in 1976. During the following years, we worked hard, played hard, traveled a lot, I got two years of college in, and had two more wonderful children: our daughter, Jaclyn, in 1981 and our son, Michael, in 1985. I have been here ever since!
I have worked in public relations, have trained as a paralegal, worked in our accounting practice, and managed a medical lab we owned for a few years. My husband and I divorced in 2002, after 36 years of marriage. My greatest accomplishments, by far, are my wonderful and loving children. Unfortunately, I lost my youngest son, Michael, last year at age 22. He was the most loving young man and we were extremely close. I will miss him forever.
I guess if I had to choose how old friends remember me, I hope they think I was kind to them.
