Judie's Story

At ECHS, I was in Radio Club with Judy Knowles and then the first girl in the electronics class. I am ever so thankful to Larry Bridges, John Fogerty, and Eddie Shepherd for their help in what otherwise would have been an utterly miserable situation in electronics class.. I have an interest in mechanical things and am curious and interested in most everything. I learned a lot from my father who did much of the work on our cars. I am mechanically inclined and my first car was a '62 Rambler with 92,000 miles and I did a lot of work on it. I am married to Larry Coe, class of '60, by heart a mechanic, and we have 3 children: David and his family living in SLC, Robert and his family living in Austin, TX area, and Johanna and family living in Reno, NV. We have a total of 10 grandchildren. I have volunteered at Harding, Portola, and ECHS for 22 yrs, starting with participation in Peter Pan Nursery School. I have had various part-time jobs, ranging in sales at Capwells, Penneys, toy stores, skating and working at Berkeley Iceland which gave me the opportunity to be an extra in a movie called Getting Even with Dad. When it came out, I was the only recognizable skater in the movie!! A very fun experience! My very favorite job was working in the different operations of the census in 1990, 2000, and 2010. I love people and learning about them. I feel it is great we are all so different. Life would be boring if we were all alike. Family interests have included pets such as the usual kinds: cats, dogs, fish, hamsters, hermit crabs, rabbits, to praying mantises and a duck we hatched from eggs. We also have enjoyed traveling, done birdwatching for about 30 yrs, and genealogy for about 40+ yrs. off and on. Love birdwatching--it comes to you!! I love jigsaw puzzles and genealogy is the bigg...Expand for more
est and most personal puzzle there is!! After almost 30 yrs, I found out my family line is included in FDR's family history. For a person who hated history and did poorly in it, here is a second chance to learn it in an up close and personal way!!! Life has changed tremendously in the past 4 yrs as my mother died, found out my sister died 5 yrs previously,, and all kids and grand kids moved away in 2 1/2 yrs and it's now time to get an "adult life". Not what I wanted, but what is!! I am trying to see it as an "And it came to pass.." situation--which means it doesn't come to stay!, and Life--what happens when you have other plans!! I never saw this coming since my family has been in CA since the gold rush and my aunt trained with Miss Alta Bates of Alta Bates Hospital.. I just never foresaw this possibility. Lately, I am trying to become technical literate--is that the way to put it? I also enjoy learning about homeopathic medicine and using it, especially since I have had better health in the past 25--30 yrs than I had earlier-- before using it. I also enjoy being proactive in consumerism, ecology, and making healthy changes. For pic of me, watch Getting Even with Dad--1993 movie with Ted Danson and McCaulay Calkins. I am the identifiable skater in it with red sweater and black pants with brown knee pads :). They took me out of the shooting because I was too identifiable and then was left in when movie was made. When it came out, our son called from Provo in the middle of the night and said, "Mom, you're on TV!!" I have another son who used to say I was smoking and thought it was a derogatory term so I hated it and never used it, but that was what came to mind when David called. Larry and I went to a local theater to see the trailer and sure enough, there I was!! How fun!!
