Judith's Story

Life Retired and enjoying the southwest. Still playing the piano and reading all I am able to get my hands on. Remarried in 1999; the best man from my first wedding. I have seven grandchildren, all in western NY. Thought I would be moving eastward to Arkansas this month, but find that we need to stay here a little longer. All those brown trout I was going to catch will just have to wait. Through Classmates, I had been in touch for the last two years with one of our classmates, JoAnne Williams Smith. Sadly, she passed away Dec. 14, 2007, after a nine year fight with cancer. I spend a lot of time listening to people and, if I can help them in any way, I will. Most people just need someone to take time to listen. The years have been kind to me but eventually wrinkles appear, gray hair starts growing in and unwanted pounds show up. The adjustment to Senior Citizen status has been the most difficult change for me to make. I do, however, love the discounts! I would enjoy contact from others in my graduating class. I guess it's time for me to join Classmates. Have heard from Brian G and Jeff C. Need to give out my email address. I think Judy Z has it. A strange little dog showed up on the street in front of our house. I called the owner (Ph. # was on the dog collar) People didn't want the dog so I kept her. Turns out she is a miniature poodle and the sweetest dog I've ever had, and I've owned many. One thing I have learned since living in Arizona is that many areas of the country do not have a decent educational system. I have heard that New York State is not as good as it was when we were in school. We had some mighty good teachers. I ran into a young mother, doing some Christmas shopping for her child. She asked me if I thought her daughter would like a game showing the states and the capital of each. I questioned her about her daughter's age and thought she was probably old enough to understand the messages. Then, young mom asked me if I could show her where Arizona was on the map. I asked her where she was b...Expand for more
orn and she said, "Arizona." I could hardly believe my ears. I told her to buy the map game and study it along with her daughter. I pity our grandchildrens' generation if the schooling is this bad. 'Nuff said about that, for now. Since I first started writing, our moving plans have changed. Obviously, we chose the worst of all possible times to put our house on the market. So now we'll do some upgrading and hope to sell it in another two years or so. Just a short month and a few days before we all head for Buffalo, NY for our 50th class reunion. Since many of our classmates are on the "where have they gone" list, I will be happy to spend time with any and all classmates. I only wish that more were planning to attend. SAFE TRIP TO ALL!!! March, 2012 Did you ever think that you would reach the age of 70 or 71? It always seemed so far away but, here it is! Our 50th reunion was fun. I wish I could have spoken to more classmates, but catching up is also time consuming. I am proud of our class and the individual achievements of so many of us. I hope our grandchildren will be able to experience life, as we have known it. Since my last entry about taking our house off the market, we have, like magic, sold our house. We are still in Bullhead City but are now waiting out a lease and trying to determine our next move. Weather patterns seem to be changing so we need to choose the right spot and it very well may be back to the eastern climes. I have been able to touch base with many of our former classmates and, I think that Classmates has been instrumental in my search for old friends. I still would love to hear from any of you. We live just a short two-hour drive from Las Vegas so if anyone would like to meet us there, we would be glad to show you around. We live about 4 1/2- 5 hours away from the Grand Canyon but would still be glad to show you one of the most marvelous places in our world. The first time I saw it, I was speechless and so awed by the beauty. Yes, I did. I cried like a baby. It is, truly, awesome.
