Judith's Story

No one who ever knew me in HS would ever guess that I would become a Physiologist and a Tai Chi Teacher. Lavone's middle daughter, the one who wasn't so pretty, who everyone thought was too smart, too tall, too loud, became happily married, with beautiful kids and grandkids, and works at helping others be well with the ancient Chinese internal arts. Now living close to the beach, enjoying life! Who Knew?! I joined the US Air Force in 1975 so I could get a college degree and get out of the small town life. Met my husband there and we have been married for 41 years. We lived in England where we had our daughter Angee who is now an insurance agent with two kids, and then we lived in Alabama where we had our son Tony who is a vet and now lives in NC. From 1986-1994 we lived in Long Beach, CA and then after the big earthquake we moved to Virginia Beach. I went back to college and graduated with a BS degree in Exercise Physiology and then opened my own business- a beautiful Tai Chi center, Ed worked for a military subcontractor as a research analyst. In Oct 2008 we moved to the Fort Walton Beach area of the Emerald Coast Florida (blue green water, white crystal sands). Ed (hubby) worked for a contractor for the US Air Force as a Medical Emergency Response Manager. In Nov 08 I took a job at Eglin Air Force Base helping to develop the new fitness assessment program. We did testing on 8000 US Air Force members twice a year- part of t...Expand for more
he fit to fight program. In 2012, we moved home to Mobile, AL where Ed's mother lives. I went back to college again and received my Masters degree in Gerontology (study of aging and the elderly). I am now the owner of Blue Willow Wellness. Ed is also a USAF retired reservist and works in automotive inventory. I enjoy all types of fitness and enjoy teaching Tai Chi/Qigong. In 2017, I hope to be teaching gerontology classes at University South Alabama. .I work with the probate court as a guardian for elders who have been deserted by their families (shocking huh!). I enjoy doing family research on a website. In HS I got suspended for protesting the Vietnam war and refusing to wear skirts in the winter (yep- it was me that killed that dress code!). In the 80’s I worked to open battered women’s shelters in MS and did fundraising to protect planned parenthood. I marched in the last ERA march in FL. I helped get Geraldine Ferrero appointed as candidate for vice-president. I worked for every democratic candidate since Carter. I fought every women’s rights battle and against racism and classism. On January 21, 2017, I will be marching in the Women’s March on Washington. So somethings have changed but some not at all- I will forever be proud to be a feminist and a liberal democrat. After all, we were children of the 60’s, right? And the battle is still going. So, now tell me, what happened to you since High School? Life is good!
