Judith's Story
Hi all!
I am living in Santa Barbara now. We bought a home here in 1993, but were commuting back and forth to Seattle until 6 years ago when my husband retired and moved here. I had been holding the fort until then. I am still working part-time. I retired from Cal State LA, where I taught for 20 years before accepting a post as founding faculty at the University of Washington, Tacoma branch. I found UW to be too 19th century: very bureaucratic and stiff, so I took an administrative job at a small university called Fielding Graduate School in 1993. I was able to create a master's program in Organizational Development that was the first online master's program in the United States. We opened enrollment in 1997.
I am still teaching in their doctoral program.

children from my first two marriages and four grandchildren. I am so lucky that they all live within half an hour of our house in Santa Barbara.
I am currently editing the Handbook of Adult Development and Wisdom for Oxford University Press. It should come out this year or early next. I write a lot of poetry and I've had a couple of plays produced. I'm going to work this spring on a short film about May West who was an important activist against censorship and for the gay community. I also have a website called Dying with Wisdom as my academic work is now focused on end of life.
I also have a personal blog. If you Google my name, you can find it. We are not allowed to post website URLs here, but Judy Stevens-Long will get you all the information about me and my website and blog. I have been keeping the blog since I had cancer seven years ago. Would love to hear from you!
