Judi's Story
I was a devoted single mother for over 20 years -- I have three wonderful adult children and a brilliant grandson -- so no one was more surprised than me when I met my true love in my 50s. He swept me off my feet - literally... he took me skydiving! We were married in our backyard in Feb. 2010 - surrounded by 100 of our closest family and friends and enough hand drums for all to participate in the heartbeat of the joyous occasion.
Sadly, my mother suffered a massive stroke two weeks after the wedding and had to be placed in a nursing home. Following several years of caring for her, and overcoming the adversities of her Stage IV Cancer, I was at a loss. wedding. The Activities Director gave us the OK. We brought family, friends, and drums to the nursing home. The benefits of the participation of the residents who attended, combined with the positive environment of multi-generational interaction, were immediately evident.
As we returned week after week the attendance at the drum circles grew. We began to see first-hand the ideas and theories of the benefits we had been reading about now proving to be effective. Inspired, we expanded to more nursing homes and to VA hospitals to bang down the walls and spread our joyful noise! As the requests for our service of therapeutic drumming grew, we began the formation of a nonprofit corporation called Wahlbangers Drum Circle Organization. Please visit our website, and our facebook page, for more information and to contact me - wahlbangersdrumcircle.org. I would love to hear from you.
