Judith's Story
Ah, my story. Well, to me, it seems a long one, but heh, it's been 45 years!
After graduation from Von, I was off to NIU, where I roomed first year with Iris Kaplan (Rudnick). Flunked out after year 2, but had a really good time at NIU. When I was 30 something I returned to school, and geraduated from Roosevelt with a degree in Political Science. and a 4.0 average. I know, sounds like I'm bragging, and I guess I am. Went to school at night...worked days. I'm very proud of that accomplishment.
At the time, I was Legislative Assistant to a member of the Chicago City Counci. I researched and wrote what, after several iterations, was to become Chicago's Elected School Board legislation and the Human Rights Legislation.
That particular "class" of Aldermen, unfortunately, got caught up in several illegal things, and so, after 20 years with the City, my job ended. Then Mayor, Harold Washington, offered me another position, but by then, after dealing with a Federal "mole", the grand jury (had my own personal subpoena)and the media, I was pretty much through with public life. It was a great job though...met lots of import people, spoke to large groups on various legislative proposals, and really enjoye...Expand for more
d my day to day responsibilities.
Then,I went to work for The Bank of Montreal/Harris Bank in the early 90's as Assistant to the head of Human Resources. After several promotions, I am now Vice President. My favorite position was Manager of our internal Help and Information line...my last position was as Manager of staffing for the United States. Unfortunately, I was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis in 1999, and by 2001, I was pretty ill. I went out on long term disability in 2003, and though I am doing pretty well now, I won't be able to return to work (anyway, at this point I'm eeking up to retirement age).
In 2012, I was diagnosed with colon cancer, had surgery and 6 months of chemo. In June, 2013, I was pronounced as being cancer free. Still, I am always looking over my shoulder.
I never had children, but my husband has 2, and we have 5 grandchildren ranging in age from 23 to 8. They live downstate, so we don't see too much of them. Married/divorced, re-married.
We live in Chicago in East Lakeview...Diversey and Sheridan for those of you who are either still here, or who still have a good memory.
Hope you are all well and happy. I'd love to hear from you.
