Judith's Story
Life
Life thus far has, on the whole, been pretty terrific. I feel extremely fortunate to have met some special people along the way and to have had some experiences I never would have imagined.
Most of the opportunities were realized because of IBM. Joined the company in Toronto, Canada (my husband was on assignment with Eli Lilly) and had sales/marketing/management positions in Toronto, Indianapolis, Toledo,Ohio, Franklin Lakes, N.J., Columbus, Ohio, Springfield, Mass, NYC, Boca Raton, White Plains, N.Y. and Hong Kong (for three glorious years).
Learned so much in IBM and met so many wonderful people. Was a "lucky duck" when they hired me.
Have been divorced since 1976 but have remained close friends with my ex. He has retired from Eli Lilly and lives in Martinsville, Indiana.
After taking early retirement from IBM, took a year off and then started a preschool and day care center in Florida. We had 85 children from 6 wks to 9 yrs of age. It had been a dream of mine for many, m...Expand for more
any years. The learning curve was steep. Being an entrepreneur was sure different from being in the cocoon of a large corporation. It was immensely rewarding, however, on multiple levels.
After five years, I sold the school and it's still going strong.
Have had the opportunity to visit many countries in the world - about 50 to date - and still have itchy feet!
Recently returned from a whale watching trip in Baja (on a fishing boat!) and actually got to pet two different baby whales in the breeding lagoon. Amazing experience. Wouldn't have believed something like that was possible.
Retirement is wonderful. Just hope I'm blessed and fortunate enough to have a few more years hanging around this earth.
The only bad thing about getting older (other than the body deteriorating)is the loss of loved ones. That aspect gets increasingly difficult and just reinforces how precious each day is that we have.
Hope all of your lives are going well and that you've realized some of your dreams.
