CLASS OF 1978

Judy's Story

After graduating from high school, I didn't know what I wanted to be when I grew up, so I just decided not to grow up and I've stuck to that decision ever since. But after a few years of nowheresville jobs, I decided to go to business school so I could get an office job. I became a Christian in April 1986, the best thing that ever happened to me. I lived with a single (divorced) mom for four years and gained some parenting experience with her son who was 3 1/2 years when we moved in together. In about 2 years, I should be gaining more experience because I'm in the process of adopting a little girl from China. I do interact with other kids which is a very good thing because my friend and I parted ways back in 1998, otherwise I'd be rusty. Anyway, I've been married to Gary since 7/29/06, it's the first marriage for both of us, also a good thing with China's new rules for adoption, otherwise we'd have to wait 5 years after being married. I've been to China twice, once in August 1993 and March/April 1996 and can't wait to go back. Yes, adopting a child is just a good excuse for going back. No, just kidding! My present job is as an administrative assistant/receptionist at a private Jewish school in Rockville MD. We have about 700 kids in our building, grades 7 - 12. In the other building it's K-6. I work year long and it's hard to take vacation days, ...Expand for more
so it's good that we get winter (Christmas) and Passover (Easter) break, plus all those Jewish holidays! I have an 11 year old cat named Shove, because her predecessor was named Push. Before Push was born,I was wondering what would be a good name, my pastor was preaching about push prayers - "Pray Until Something Happens". Someone at my work at the time said I needed to get another cat and name it Shove. My roommate and I put our heads together (it didn't hurt too much) and came up with "Shout Hallelujah Over Vanquished Enemies" and loved what Shove meant so much that we almost went right out and got another kitten. But I remembered Push had feline leukemia virus, which is very contagious and deadly. He died 3 days before his first birthday. We moved from our apartment into a townhouse and I went back to China before getting Shove. My next cat(s) will have more normal names, I think. Shove gets picked on too much by the other cats because of her unusual name. I became a homeowner August 20, 2001 when I bought a two bedroom condo. My husband moved in with me because he was renting at the time, being a California native and having never moved beyond renting. I also like to fly kites, bake and do crossstitch. That's about it for my highlights, I could give more details but this has already taken a lot of time that I really don't have at this point.
