Judy's Story
It's June of 2011 and I just started reconnecting with my few high school friends. It is so exciting to renew old friendships.
I figured everybody in my classes had attended college, married the perfect mate, have a brilliant and successful life and family. Except for my few friends, I knew there wasn't anybody interested in knowing about my boring and uneventful life but decided to put all pride aside and jot down just a few things. If for no other reason than to re-affirm in the minds of the ones that figured, and rightly so, that I wouldn't amount to anything that they were 100% correct!! But I sure had fun proving them right. I haven't attended any school reunions since the ten and twenty year reunions amount to trying to out-do each other with stories of success and "I told you so's" for the ones that failed to measure up to some people's ideas of success. By the time we reach our fortieth reunion we should all be at a time of comfort in our own skins and have found what really and truly counts in our lives, and that is not financial success and name dropping. The sum total of our lives equals our position in the promise of eternal life.
Didn't become the Nun I had planned; joined the Navy instead while I lived in New York City. I really loved the military life. I married a Marine (bad decision). In civilian life he was a news anchorman, talk show host and taught at the Community College. We have two children. A son that is an Air Force veteran, computer whiz (engineer & past co-owner of two companies where he would develop computer systems and as a consultant, both national & international, for such companies as Hawaiian Airlines, Warren Buffet, various banks and businesses from the east coast to the west coast and in London, Japan, the Netherlands, etc.) and is now a VP at an east coast bank of mergers & acquisitions. A daughter that became an advertisement model (& still is even after seven children) , a passion for physical fitness, kick boxing, etc. and has her own private investigation, loss prevention and bounty hunter agency. She loves to slip her pink handcuffs on big guys that thought they could handle this thin pretty gal with long red hair that people see as a Farrah Fawcett style.
I've lived from the west coast to the east coast and places in between. I've w...Expand for more
orked in a number of fields, from photo studio; to co-owner of a trucking company and a mining corporation; to shipping and logistic analyst; and my personal favorites -juvenile detention, law enforcement and security.
Haven't really achieved anything great or worth writing home about but sure had fun trying!! If I had to choose one thing I'm really proud of I'd have to say that my children are my greatest achievements.
In the late '70's I joined the Army National Guards and became an ammunition storage specialist, an honor student to boot. Now that's an MOS that translates into an excellent civilian job, yeah..in my dreams!! Ended up being the only female left in my company so I had to work much harder than the men. One of the hardest chores was getting it through the thick skull of my sgt's wife that I wore the uniform so I didn't have to bring anything to the monthly pot luck dinners! My favorite activities in the Guards was recuriting (particularly single mothers) and handling the M16 and playing with C-4. Had a great time while it lasted.
Been married a few times, but this last one is a keeper. He was in law enforcement in Nevada (Sheriff then Chief of Police). It has lasted 31 years so no sense in making any changes this late in life!! I wouldn't trade him anyway! My two ex's died a couple years after each divorce. The first one was murdered and the second died of a heart attack.
I'd say my greatest asset is my ability to find the good or fun in any situation and laughing about it; even a prisoner spitting on me or throwing dirty toilet water on me still made me laugh; she never made that mistake again. Ever try to grab and hold onto a drunken, naked, wet lady (in jail) while some officers are trying to put a straight jacket on her? That was worth a lot of laughs!! Then there are times you have to laugh to keep from crying! Life is great and so much fun...better than the alternative!
I have had a fairly average, sometimes mundane, life.....if I don't count a tremendous head-on car accident, or loss of a brother and ex-husband to murder; or having a brother in prison a couple of times for manslaughter and murder; or having a "hit" put out on me by a family member.................just a normal life so far. I can hardly wait to see what old age has to offer!!!
