Judy's Story
After I graduated from the U of I College of Nursing in 1968, my husband was drafted into the Air Force. We spent 3 years in Panama and the Canal Zone. When I wasn't working in the emergency room of the Canal Zone hospital , I was able to travel to Equador and Columbia. I stood on the equator and toured Bogota safely at night. After completion of my husband's military duty, we returned to Evanston so he could finish medical residency. In 1974 we moved with 2 children to west central Illinois. cal hospice. In 1996, when the children completed their college education and weren't returning to rural mid-America, we relocated to Charlotte, North Carolina. I kept discovering new and exciting careers during mid-life. I worked at Nordstroms, Talbots, Hospice at Charlotte, and Charlotte-Mecklenburg Public Schools. All were unique job opportunities. While living in Charlotte, I became a devotee of NASCAR. Who knew that I would know more about race car drivers, than the White Sox or Cubs!!!!! In 2007 after my husband was diagnosed with a rare neurological disease, I returned to the Chicago area to be closer to children, grandchildren and family.
