Judy's Story

Life I have been teaching Family & Consumer sciences at Union City High School since 1983 . I teach the cooking, human sexuality and Peer Educator classes. I have had an article published in the 2nd volume of the American Journal of Sexuality Education.I have been very busy with my Peer Educator class. We recently received the Crime Victim Center 2011 Community Service Award and have entered a number of video contests on Bullying, Distracted Driving and PA New Teen Driving Laws. I have a 25 yr. old son and and my daughter is 21. We have 1 dog. I am now a proud grandmother thanks to my son. Gabbrielle Gawlinski will be 2 in July. I had the honor of helping deliver her. It was an amazing experience. I earned my Culinary Essentials Educator statis from Johnson and Wales in 2005.For the past 5 years, I have been a grill cook and baker on weekends for a local family restaurant. ived the Lesley Nearman award from the PA Coalition to Prevent Teen Pregnancy for the work I have been doing with teens.I am very excited about our decrease in teen pregnancy at my school. I still not sure if its because of my very descriptive details of my births. I have traveled to Harrisburg with some of my top Peer Educators and met with legislators about Comprehensive Sex Education. We lobbyed for a bill to pass and make Comprehensive Sex Ed manatory in PA schools.I was also asked to testify in front of the House Education Commitee about Comprehensive Sex Ed. I have also been traveling and conducting workshops on the importance of Peer Educator programs in our schools and how to start one.I will be traveled to the SC Coalition to prevent Teen Pregnancy in N.Charleston, SC , Pittsburgh, Atlanta Georgia and Penn State. I am looking forward to retiring in about 5 years and then I can just work at the restaurant.
