Judy's Story

Life: We called Pleasanton, CA home from 1970 to 2001 when we retired and moved into our motor home to travel. We miss our neighbors and friends and of course we loved the Bay Area, but looked forward to travel adventures thoughout the US, Mexico, Canada and Alaska. In Jan. 2003 we purchased a place in Leisure World Seal Beach. Travel was still a major part of our life and we were able to do quite a bit of motor home travel. Loved being so close to all our So. California friends and family and it was fun to renew old friendships. However, in Jan. 2006 we sold our Seal Beach home and purchased a home in Oregon. When we spent the Summer of 2005 on the Oregon Coast we found just what we had been looking for during the 5+ years before our retirement in 2001. It has all that we need including RV storage area. Trips: 2002: Middle States with 3 months in Texas. North to Chicago and back to Calif. then to Oregon and Washington before returning to CA. 2003: Across the Northern States to MN and into Canada driving the No. Shore of Lake Superior. East to New Brunswick and New England for fall colors. South to Wash. DC and Virginia and back to CA with a stop in Texas. 2004: North into Canada by way of Idaho and Montana. From Montana we traveled through the Canadian Rockies on our way to Alaska. July found us on a quick trip home to care for Elwyn's dad. 2005: Oregon Coast from CA to Reedsport, OR (about mid coast). Found just what we wanted in a retirement community in Southern Oregon and moved January 2006. 2006: Canada's Yukon and Northwest Territories then to Alaska and back to Oregon for Fall Salmon fishing on the Rogue River in Gold Beach. Spring Salmon fishing was okay, the Fall fishing was GREAT! 2007: A motor home trip in the spring to IA via AZ, NM, TX, KS & MO then back to Oregon for the summer. An Alaska Cruise in August and Fall Salmon fishing Sept. and Oct. on the Rogue River in Gold Beach, OR. Of course Elwyn had to have a "river jetboat" and is now the proud owner of one. 2008: Motor home trip in Feb. & Mar. to S.CA and AZ to attend the Parker, AZ "Blue Grass on the River", our 4th yr. at this event. Then back to Oregon for fishing and relaxing the rest of the year. 2009: Didn't really satify our "white-line-fever" this year with only two motorhome trips. Both were just quick get-aways to one of our favorite places, Winchester B...Expand for more
ay, OR. December found us on a 21 day cruise from Long Beach to Panama, which returned to LB. It was an awesome trip. We spent our Christmas in Cambria a planned. Oh yes, we sold the river boat just as the ship was leaving Long Beach on our cruise. WooHoo. 2010: ALASKA, our 4th motor home trip. Left mid-May and took our time up the coast to Bellingham, WA. Had planned to spend the entire summer in Alaska, but once again had to return early, leaving Valdez on the 23rd of June and arriving home (Oregon) on the 28th. We maintained a travel blog while traveling (ejbowker.blogspot.com) and are following several others still traveling in Alaska. So...2011 or 2012, ALASKA...one more time! 2011: Tennessee this time. Left April 15th in the motor home for an Intarsia Workshop by Judy Gale Roberts. It was a very interesting trip due to all the weather related events. Stayed in Oklahoma City for about two weeks waiting for the weather in the east to simmer down. Ended up buying a new motor home while there and took it on a shake down run to eastern Tennessee. Workshop was GREAT! Weather was wonderful and headed west for home with a stop in OKC for minor motor home repairs...you know those little things you discover. While there we had a Tornado warning and headed for a shelter. First time in all our travels that we ever had to do that. It was truly an experience we don't wish to repeat. Home safely in June and have been enjoying life on the Oregon Coast. Have only taken a few mtrhm trips. But are planning one to Arizona SOON! 2011-2012: Spent 2 months in Arizona. Had always wanted to go back to Tombstone Territories RV Park, about 12 miles from Tombstone, for the winter. Didn't stay a long as we wanted, but sure did enjoy it. Found out that we are rather 'nomads' and really didn't like staying in one location for so long. But even though we were there for two months, we didn't do all the things we wanted to do...so guess there will be a return trip...maybe this December! This year we'll be staying home through the summer and only making two short trips to participate in art events. One in Roseburg, OR and the other in Sherwood, OR. Life is good!!! Also, check our hobby web-sites (ejbowker.weebly.com) for pictures of Elwyn's Intarsia and (jbowkerphotos.weebly.com) for my Photography. Would love to hear from you. Judy
