Judy's Story

Life I moved 13 times in my 12 years of school. I lived in Southmont, Lexington, Mount Pleasant, Linwood, Harrisburg, Charlotte, Huntersville, I actually lived in more than one house in some of those towns. We moved a lot because my stepfather was always looking for a "new start" where his creditors wouldn't find him. I wanted more than anything to not be the new girl. 7th grade was my best time. I had a circle of friends, Ann, Donese and Kay and we hung out togethe at recess. I had several friends then;Marlene, Darlene, Betty Jean, Jane, to name a few. Since school, I got married twice, raised a family, a step family and helped with grandchildren. I have played bluegrass music in fiddlers conventions, traveled across the US by car and by plane. I have two dogs and a cat at present. I have lived several places and known many people. It was very strange to live in western canada and be accused of being a "yankee" It was even stranger to live in Washington state and be a southerner. Workplace Spent 9 years in a sewing factory but then and became a surgical technician(scrub nurse). Then I decided to get out of the high-stress environment and went into ofice work. My work life seems to be over but not of my choosing. The economy caused my lay-off and at my age ...Expand for more
I will never find another job as I have no degree in anything. I wasted my youth in not getting more education. Never planned for the future. To ralax now, I watch HGTV home renovation shows. The one person from my past who I'd most like to see again is Jane Whitman, because our mothers were friends as well as she and I. We acted silly together and laughed a lot. I never was a person that eveyone sought out to be a friend. I was always afraid that no one wanted to talk to me. I was surprised to find out later in life that my actions were perceived as stuck up, when i was really shy. My first crush was in 7th grade. A few of us, boys and girls would hang out at recess and that Christmas he gave me and 3 other girls necklaces. many years later, my cousin encouraged me to call him because he had asked her where I was. I called him and was so humiliated when he said he couldnt remember me!! I guess the crush was one sided. but he could have remembered me anyway. Oh well. Dont know where he is now. If I could be young again, I would be more assertive. I would make my thoughts and wishes known instead of hanging on the edge of other peoples liives. My current age is 67. When I was 12, I thought that people my age now would be ancient. I was so completely wrong.
