Judy's Story
Wow ! How to squeeze 50 years of life into a few paragraphs ! I moved to Texas in 1970 and have, for the most part, been here ever since. I love living in Texas ~ but as I get older, I find Iowa calling to me more and more. I doubt I will move back, but I may include more visits 'home'. Memories I hold dear to my heart, and try to revisit each time I return to Iowa are: The Iowa State Fair; the Ledges; and going hunting for a rare-bit hamburger. LOL. (So far Drake Diner holds the record for the best,,, just sayin).
I have two children, a boy and a girl. (My greatest accomplishments). My daughter has one daughter and a stepson. Her stepson, has given us two adorable little girls. My son, has two boys and a girl. So, for all practical purposes, I have a total of two children, 5 Grands and 2 Great ~Grands. All of which can be referred to as 'the loves of my life'. Family, after all, is EVERYTHING!
Career wise, I found early on, I did not enjoy working for anyone but myself. LOL. This, resulted in a few 'jobs' such as: I worked for Attorneys; for Doctors; for American Airlines; then.... got out on my own: owned a restaurant; owned a catering company; dabbled in an apparel business (making/wholesale) and worked at the Apparel Mart in Dallas etc. etc. I always wanted...Expand for more
to keep creative and busy. Yet still have a close relationship with my children.
I've also enjoyed being involved in fundraising; and working with "MAKE A WISH' Foundation. For several years, I was a volunteer chaperone where we would take a planeload of children with cancer (each year) to Orlando for a weeks vacation to visit Disney World and surrounding attractions. That was an amazing experience not to mention extremely fulfilling. I also enjoyed being a troop leader for my Daughter in Girl Scouts.
In the 80's/90's I was able to travel extensively. Loved traveling around the world... so glad I did it 'then' rather than 'now'. The world is not the way it was when we were young. I don't know if I would feel as comfortable traveling now... as I did then.
I am recently divorced. Feeling great about it all. Love living on my own. I actually feel as though each new day IS the first day of the rest of my life.. More smiles on my face these days.
I've always been an animal lover. My animal of choice is a miniature schnauzer. Love my little girl. She is the sixth (and probably last) animal I will own. After she's gone, I'll just get my puppy-fix with friend's and family's fur-children. lol.
Guess that's enough for a quick 'catch-up' .
Hugs, Judy
