Julia's Story

Feel like I've done just about everything only to end up back in Coolville and at Federal Hocking. After graduating from OU, I moved to Cincinnati. I taught two years in Ohio, then taught the next 5 years in Northern KY. Of the 7 years in Cincinnati, I taught preschool special ed for 3 years; K-5 special ed for 4. I also completed my Masters Degree at University of Rio Grande as K-12 Intervention Specialist (fun way to fill your summers!). In 2004, I was given the opportunity to come back home to Coolville. I was the Reading Intervention Specialist with the Ohio Reading First Grant (something totally new for me), then I moved into the Literacy Specialist position for the next two years. That put me in the position to provide the professional development for the teachers. It was weird "teaching" some of my previous teachers!!! The grant ran out so I had to move to the high school (which about sent me into a nervous breakdown...I'd always been with the wee little ones) and am in my 2nd year as a High School Intervention Specialist (special ed). I truly enjoy it. Never wanted to teach students older than elementary, but what a pleas...Expand for more
ant surprise. On the personal side, I have a wonderful boyfriend who treats me like a queen. We live in Mom and Dad's old house in Coolville, since they now live in Grandma's house. Brent and I also share the house with two demanding cats, Meesha and Abigail. We have his adorable 6 year old son, "little" Brent, every other weekend and as a result of that, have just adopted 2 guinea pigs, Squeakers and Clementine. Haha! Brent swears they're as much for me as they are for little Brent (LB), but I tell you, it was all for LB. That's my story and I'm sticking to it. After getting out of the Marines and various jobs, he decided he wanted a culinary degree. So he's enrolled in the Culinary Arts program at Hocking College and will begin Winter Quarter. Woohoo! He spoils me with his cooking. But hey--a man who can cook--I'm not complaining! That's about it. Lots of little stuff in between but I've hit the big points. I love hanging out with friends, traveling to Cincinnati to see old friends there, traveling in general, playing the piano and of course, hanging out at home with the boys and animals. Hope to connect with you all soon!
