Julia's Story
Life
I graduated from California State
University, Chico with a BA in
Sociology and then went on to the
University of San Francisco for my MA
in Psychology with an emphasis on
Marriage and Family Counseling. I'm
married to a wonderful man who is a
VP at Wells Fargo doing web design. We're very fortunate that he is able to telecommute. We have two beautiful little girls one was born in 2006 and the other 2009.
School
The teacher I learned the most from was Mrs. Beaudette. She was very encouraging and I don't know if college would of been in my future without her. I also really enjoyed Mr. Hunsacker (sp?). He was an amazing science teacher and really made you think about things.
Workplace
I spent a few years working for a shelter for battered women & children / local rape crisis center while working on my undergraduate degree and then worked for a homeless women & children's shelter in Sacramento while working on my MA. ving to a small community in the beautiful redwoods of Mendocino County. There I worked as a family and child therapist for a small non-profit counseling center.
I also had the opportunity to work with law enforcement doing trainings on domestic violence & child abuse issues as well as a community corrections facility and did a couple of group counseling/trainings at Vacaville Prison. Not my cup of tea for sure. Working with law enforcement however was very rewarding.
When my husband was promoted we moved to the San Francisco Bay Area and I quit working and decided to work on writing a book. Although since Katie came that has totally took a back burner position and hopefully someday I'll start writing again. Right now I am just enjoying being a mom.
