Julia's Story
Well - here's the Reader's Digest Condensed Version: After high school, I went to trade school, became a secretary, worked for the post office for 27 years, rose through the ranks to the position of postmaster, which I did for 7 years. Hated it all. Finally got the guts to quit my job and do what I always felt I was supposed to do but was always discouraged from doing (parents and high school counselors) - music. I have returned to school - yes in my 50's - to get a degree for teaching music. I LOVE IT! (Somebody tell me why I have to calculate the slope of a line to be a music teacher?! - never did like algebra, and I still struggle with it.) t marry until I was in my mid-30's, just didn't find the right guy. It was worth every hour of every day to wait - he is a wonderful man. He had children from a previous marriage - so I am a stepmother to 5 children, and we currently have 9 grandchildren and one on the way. My stepson just returned from serving in Iraq, drove a tank, and was in Sadr City for 15 months. We are grateful he returned home safely to be with his wife and brand new little boy. We are very proud of his service to our country. I enjoy domestic arts - I can much of our homegrown vegetables and fruit, do a little quilting, and we have three cats. They are Munckins - a breed of cat with very short legs, very sweet personalities, and a great deal of fun. Recently returned from a school trip to France, spent a month in Paris, total immersion to learn the language. I have been studying Chants d'Auvergne, a region of France that has their own language - almost a dead language, but the music is GORGEOUS.
