Julia's Story
Life
So much has changed in my life since I last saw everyone in 1989. I was disabled in an automobile accident in 1992. The brain injury kept me from returning to nursing, but I was able to return to graduate school part time. I graduated with a Master of Divinity from the Iliff School of Theology in Denver and am ordained clergy in the United Church of Christ. I worked as a hospice chaplain for six years, but resigned in 1995 to start a private practice in spiritual direction. I went to Louisiana after Hurrican Katrina and volunteered with the Red Cross as a chaplain.
I got married to a wonderful man on 8/9/07. We live in a house in Louisville, CO (yes, the same town that Money Magazine rated fifth best place to live in nation) that I purchased in 1991. We have 3 dogs and multiple fish in ...Expand for more
my water garden. It is our sanctuary. My sister and brother both live in Colorado in the Denver metro area as well. My father died in May 2004. As many of you have probably experienced, it feels so different after both parents are deceased and you're suddenly the older generation. Maybe that's especially true for someone like me who never had children.
Ever since I was 18, I have enjoyed being a passenger on the back of a motorcycle - especially big motorcycles. In recent years, I've had the opportunity to ride again. (Some friends disapprove because of the brain injury, but I refuse to live in fear.) Peter has a Harley Fatboy and has been operating a bike for over 40 years so I feel really safe riding with him. I decided that the brain injury really does preclude my operating my own Harley.
