Julie's Story

Life I'm now a Grandmother for nearly a year. Allie will be a year old next month. Daughter Tiffany got married in 09 to a fabulous fella named Michael Outlaw, whom we all just adore. If anyone remembers my Dad, PB Burdett, we lost him Sep 2011. Miss him terribly. Anticipating May this year when Tiffany and family hit town for niece Ellie Weber graduation from Pace Academy. Things have REALLY changed since my last bio. I FINALLY have moved back home!! (YAY!!) Only been back a couple of months (9/04) and am now searching for a new job--preferably a Federal job, still. Our daughter (Tiffany) is now in college at UGA--yep, she's a 'Dawg! She wants to major in Communications/Broadcasting. She's in her Sophomore year and a Phi Kappa Psi Sweetheart. Love her boyfriend, he's from Ringgold, GA. We bought a new home in Mableton in a community called The Retreat at Old Vinings Lake, it's off Cooper Lake Road. I'm amazed at how much Atlanta has changed in the last 22 years! My husband came down first, got a great job offer in July, when he told me he was looking at this area in Mableton, I almost freaked! What the heck are you doing in Mableton???!!!??? When I got here and rode around with the realtor, I got re-educated, quickly! Life was different for all of us in our little bubble in Buckhead!! Hope some of y'all get back in touch! After graduation, I went to Brenau College for a few years. After that, I joined the U.S. Marine Corps for 8 years and got out in 1990. It was in the Marine Corps that I met my husband--Al McGowan--and we got married about 4 weeks after we ...Expand for more
met. We will be married for 19 years this year. We have 1 child, a daughter who just turned 16 in February. She is everything a parent could ever hope for and continues to amaze me every year! She's a whiz at everything she does. After the Marine Corps stint I joined the Civil Service and work for the Department of Defense in Procurement. Anyone reading this that knew me well in school is probably falling out of their chair laughing! Totally opposite of what you expected, right?! Life takes strange curves sometimes and keeps on winding down that road. I miss Atlanta, my friends, my family (what's left of them). The Marine Corps brought us here to Virginia back in 1988, and we're STILL here!! We won't move anywhere until our daughter goes to college. So, that's a VERY BRIEF bio and what's going on in my life. And for me this is SHORT! I would LOVE to hear from y'all and find out where we all have landed! Military It was after Boot Camp and back to Parris Island for PA school for me. During SRB school is when I met my (now)husband, SSgt Al McGowan. We only knew each other 4 weeks and he asked me to marry him--found out later that he found out I would have gone to Okinawa. I think a mutual friend held his feet to the fire and said he'd never see me again if I went to Japan. Then it was on to Camp Lejeune, I worked in the HQ (Bldg 2) for MajGen Al Gray (82-84). Then, 2 yrs later got pregnant, then got joint household orders to Hawaii, where our daughter was born at Cripler, I mean Tripler (84-87). Then to OCS at Quantico, VA (87-90) where I got out due to knee surgery.
