Julie's Story
After graduating from FHS, I attended Malone College in Canton,Ohio, to get a BS in Elementary Education. For the first three years after college, I was a substitute teacher/McDonald's swing manager/part time DJ (all at the same time. Exhausting! Then I moved to Virginia where I taught pre-school for 1-1/2 years. Next I spent 10 months in 1989-90 in Papua New Guinea where I taught 4th grade at a school of missionary kids. I got to attend our 10 year reunion when i go back from there, and that was the last time I saw pretty much anyone from FHS. Back in Virginia, I taught 6th grade and then 3rd grade followed by a year doing temp work as I waited for the go-ahead to move to my current location in Bali, Indonesia. en's home. There are 153 kids cared for by this home ranging in age from pre-school through high school. I love my work and I love those kids.
In November 2005, I had a very special addition to my life when a friend told me of a 6 week old baby in a village that needed a home. To make a long story short, I woke up one morning with no idea my life was about to change, and I had my precious little girl in my arms less than 48 hours later. Rachel's adoption was finally completed nearly 2 years later. She is a happy, healthy, very inquisitive little girl who gives me something to smile about every day. Of course, with her 4 years to my 47, it is sometimes hard to have the energy to keep up with her, but in spite of the, I LOVE being a mom.
I'm sorry I won't be able/wasn't able to make it to the 30 year reunion. It is a little far to travel. Who knows...may for the 40 year reunion....
