Julie's Story
Life
After high school, I went to Clark State for a while, but wasn't quite ready to finish. I worked at several different jobs and found my first "real" job at Cascade. I worked there for 4 years, and during that time I met the man of my dreams, Jeff Phillipp, and married him on August 27, 1988. We had our first son, Jordan, on August 9, 1990. When he was 2yrs old, I decided to go back to nursing school. During Spring Break, I became pregnant with our second child, our daughter, Josie. She was born on December 19, 1992. I graduated nursing school, and began working at Mercy Hospital and for American Nursing Care. Four years later, I had our youngest son, Jay, on June 18, 1996. I have been busy ever since. I was a Girl Scout leader for 6 years. We bought our first pop-up camper in 2000 and caught the camping bug. In 2004 we went to Disney World and arrived on my 39th birthday. What a great way to celebrate! In 2006, we took a month long trip out west. We drove almost 7,000 miles to San Francisco and back, stopping in Phoenix, the Grand Canyon, Vegas, and Yosemite National park on the way. Coming back, we stopped in Reno, Idaho at my cousins who took us to Yellow Stone...Expand for more
, and Mount Rushmore. Driving through South Dakota, our transmission went out in Wall, South Dakota. (Just to add a note, this was all done while pulling our pop-up camper, with 2 teenagers and a 10 year old.) Anyway, we were stranded for 5 days, but it was so worth it. It was a trip that my kids will never forget. In June of 2007, my wonderful husband was diagnosed with Stage IV stomach cancer. He endured chemo and had surgery in December of 2007. Things did not go as well as we had hoped. On March 31, we were told that he was terminal. I brought him home from OSU James on April 1. He lovingly spent time with his kids, his family, his friends, and of course with me. He was the bravest and kindest man I have ever known. He taught us so much during this time and he was never angry about his situation. On May 11, 2008, at 2:00 in the afternoon, Jeff took his last breath. He was 45 years old. I will love him for always. I will also honor his memory by living my life to it's fullest. That is what he wanted all of us to do. As my son, Jordan, so wisely said, "I hope that everyone could live each day as though it's their last and face each sunrise with open arms."
