Julie's Story
Life
Hey everyone! HereÂs a little bit about what IÂve been up to since 1985Â
..I graduated from the U of I in 1989 with a degree in accounting and my CPA. I made my rounds in the finance departments of many of the Fortune 500 companies in Chicago over the next 11 years, doggedly climbing the corporate ladder. I made stops at Amoco, McDonaldÂs (International Division), Ameritech and Sears.
I got my MBA in finance from the Univerisity of Chicago in 1996Â
.. threw a hell of a bash to celebrate and met my future husband that night. I married in 1997 to a Chicago police officer and moved to the big city. My son Matt arrived in 1998 and turned my world upside down (for the better!). I was no longer just a finance exec, but a mommy. The first few days back from maternity leave were tough and I cried all the way to and from work! It was just too darn hard to leave my little guy. So, I quit and took 2 years off to be a stay-at-home mom. That job turned out to be harder than it looked!! =) But I wouldnÂt trade a day of it for the world.
In 2000 my husband and I decided to divorce. Thankfully it was a very amicable process and we remain close friends to this day. He is a strong presence in my sonÂs life and we work hard at parenting together even though we have separate lives.
Following my divorce I went back to work in corporate America and realized a high- ranking finance position was a little tricky to manage as a working mom. Too many late night meetings etc. Then, a co-worker from one of my previous jobs recommended me for a CFO position (Chief Financial Officer) at a priva...Expand for more
tely held healthcare company. By this time, I had grown tired of the corporate politics and male-dominated finance ranks in corporate America and decided to make the move. It completed changed my perspective on what a job should be and I felt as if I had finally found my calling.
A few years later I was woo-ed to another CFO position at a privately-held distribution firm in Wood Dale then on to one in Chicago. I currently work for myself at my own firm. It is a consulting firm on the side offering CFO services on a part-time basis to smaller companies who canÂt afford one full-time.
I currently live in Darien with my 9 year old son. He is a football fanatic, basketball and soccer player. In the off season he swims on a swim team at the high school closest to us. I am currently single but enjoying the freedom and flexibility that comes with that status. When people ask what is next for meÂ
I simply tell them IÂm taking it one day at a time because just when I think I have it all figured out, life throws me a curve ball. I am happy to say that most of the time it has been for the better and that I am up for the challenges ahead.
Thanks for stopping by my profile and checking in. Let me know youÂve been here so I can pull out the old yearbook (make fun of your picture and mine!) and reminiscence!

School
My biggest crush was...well he probably knows who he is. The one that got away!
College
I went to U of I for my business/accounting degree, and a few years later got my MBA from the University of Chicago. I hope to never set foot in a college ever again!
