Julie's Story

Life My Spouse We met at a club...and believe or not but he doesn't really care for dancing! IN fact, I can't remember any more the last time we went out dancing, much less clubbing. OF course, what club in their right mind would left a pair of middle-aged married people in the door? Ha My Pets NO pets at the moment, unless you count the racoons that seem to have taken up residence under our back deck. We had a beautiful Snowshoe Siamese cat up until a few summers ago and are only now considering getting a new pet, probably a dog this time. My Kids I'm the proud parent of an extremely talented 9 year old daughter. I can hardly believe that she will be in 4th grade in the fall!! She loves anything having to do with performing and has already been in four big school musical productions including The Wizard of Oz and Grease, as well as all 3 of her school's talent shows. When asked what she wants to be when she grows up, it's no surprise to hear "Be an aaaactor! Or maybe a singer...or BOTH!" That is, if she has time to, since she also plans n being an oceanographer! lol Up until recently, figure skating has beenwhere the bulk of our time went, as this was the sport of her choice. Up until she got injured in November and had to stay off the ice, there was nothing she loved more than gliding onto the ice to perform in a competition, and yes, in LA! Music is another interest, with the highlights being being her solo performance as a 1st grader in the school talent show playing piano while singing the Academy Award-winning song Falling Slo...Expand for more
wly from the movie Once. She got a standing ovation, and needless to say we're quite proud of her. Last year (2009, 2nd grade) she was chosen to open the show with her rendition of Honey, Honey from the musical Mama Mia. This year (2010, 3rd grade) she sang Take a Bow. How she can get up in front of a huge crowd to perform is beyond me, but she does, and she LOVES it. My Job A year after I had my daughter, I left my full time job to become a stay-at-home mom. It's been a truly life-changing experience not only to refocus priorities but also to have to live on a very tight budget after living the high life as a DINK (Double Income No Kids)! I left a company (a major national HMO) after 16 years where I had been essentially an internal consultant and oversaw the development and implementation of new strategic business intiatives. I had held a myriad of positions there including Management Engineer, Regional Product Evaluation Analyst, Hospital Financial Manager, and Regional Materiel Formulary Administrator, so it was quite a shock to the system to head into new territory with a baby. Since leaving that cushy full-time job, I've been doing freelance consulting (mostly educational) and technical writing off and on but am now ready to go back to work on a full time basis. I loved working in healthcare, but anticipate making a career change to accommodate my desire to maintain more regular (and less) hours than I worked before having a family. I could make some high level exec very happy as their way over-qualified but underpaid assistant!
