Julie's Story

Life Life has had many twists and turns, all of them valuable learning experiences. Married, moved to Colorado, and became a mother way too young but was able to continue college and live in Europe for three years! Came back to Colorado and continued my education at the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs. Despite a brand new home, a brand new degree, and another brand new baby boy my marriage ended after eleven years. The boys and I moved to Denver two years later and have continued to live here, in Littleton, since 1990. Upon moving up here, I again went back to school and became licensed to teach at the elementary level. I was fortunate to land a teaching job right after I finished my program. I teach at Red Rocks Elementary which is nestled in the foothills of Denver, just down the hill from Red Rocks Amphitheater. Our little school is the envy of many and I've been lucky enough to be on board for the past fourteen years, teaching second-grade for the last ten of those years. About eight years ago I had a new home built which is ten minutes away from work. I love living so close to the mountains and thoroughly enjoy the open-space, park, and lake I back into. I love and am so proud of my two guys! Scott, my oldest, is a history teacher at Columbine High School, which is where he graduated from. I became a mother-in-law almost two years ago when Scott married his college sweetheart and they are thriving in their own home here in the Highlands Ranch area. Scott is also the head J.V. football coach and track coach at Columbine. This past fall I was able to see my so...Expand for more
n coach the varsity footballl team to a state victory on Invesco field where the Broncos play-what a thrill! Next year Scott will be finished with his Master's in Counseling so who knows where that will take him??? My baby, Ryan, who isn't exactly a baby, also graduated from Columbine last year at this time. Having played football, baseball, and lacrosse Ryan made a decision to turn down four football scholarships to attend the University of Northern Colorado in Greeley. I don't think he could stand being too far away from his family, friends, snowboarding and partying experiences. I'm enjoying having him home for the summer and then he'll be gone again. I do miss the guys but am so unbelievably blessed to know how much they're enjoying and making the most of their lives. As they are moving on I find myself in a new realm asking, what about me? I decided this past year to pursue a Master's in Reading so I'm off to take classes at the University of Colorado-Denver this summer. I'm actually excited to go back to school even though I know the work will be rigorous. I find it interesting that all three of us will be in college simultaneously. I hope to possibly make it back for the class reunion. We vacation in the summer at a house on Big Cedar Lake outside of Milwaukee so I know we'll be driving through Iowa on I-80 the first part of June and returning the mid-part of June. After my summer courses are completed we may go back for another two weeks the end of July before I have to start teaching in August. Hope it works out so that I can catch-up with all of you. Julie
