Julie's Story
Life
I am still Julie L. Andrews who graduated from Central Union High School in Fresno in 1977. I am married to Paul C. Best and we both work for the Theater department in Clovis Unified School District. I graduated from CSUFresno in 1987, got my teaching credential and Masters of Science in Instructional Leadership from National University in 1991, and just completed my Masters of Fine Arts in Creative Writing from Antioch University in June of 2005. I am now a published poet and currently teaching English and Drama for Buchanan High School in Clovis Unifed. I am a Teacher/Consultant for the San Joaquin Valley Writing Project and a Literacy Coach for Roosevelt School of the Arts. I have two dogs, 6 cats, one horse and live in Prather, CA. My parents still live in the same house I grew up in and my baby sister is teaching kindergarten in Centerville for Sanger Unified School District. a car accident that trashed my right knee. I do still SCUBA dive and my husband and I went to the Cayman Islands last summer to celebrate my MFA graduation. The last two class reunions, I was recovering from accidents and didn't make it to the reunion. I hope that is not the case at the 30 year reunion. I ran into Helen Aguallo at her nephew's graduation party last year. He was my TA, and I didn't make the connection until the school year was almost over. I have had a couple of Central grads' children in my class over the last few years, and since I have no children of my own, it is hard to believe that I could have kids getting ready to graduate from High School! I'm going to China to teach English this summer for 6 weeks, so I'm really looking forward to seeing this new country and writing a new poetry collection about my experiences. I hope to hear from a few people whether you in live in Fresno or other parts of the world!
